Subscribe to Community-wide general discussion I dare you 2

One year from today I will have...

I dare you to state one semi-outrageous business related goal that you think there's at least somewhat of a chance of becoming a reality by this time next year. I think it would be fun to see what people say, and for us to come back to this thread one year from now (I'll put a reminder in iCal.)

...Take a risk, challenge yourself, dream it!

    I guess I should start.

It sounds kind of boring, but its a good goal for me to be specific with right now: By October of 2008 I will be making at least $5,000 monthly solely from Spark Northwest (not including other endeavors.)

Wow Leif... What a way to put yourself right out there. I admire your courage and I'll join with you. Don't forget to remind me to report in a year. Here it is:

By October of 2008 my book will be published and have sold at least the first 10,000 copies....HH

Oh, Ok! I love a good dare. Mine's not an outrageous goal, but still something to shoot for.

I will have built solid new skills as a writer, learned all about website design, and fostered strong new Seattle contacts. In Oct. '08, I will -be earning my highest wages to date -have invested in real estate in Washington State -will be thinking "Isn't life great!" (Sorry, I can't resist cheesy rhymes.)

Great goals you two! Rebecca, I was originally thinking just one goal to keep it simple but hey, why not list a bunch?! SparkNW

I guess I'm wanting a lot out of life, not just my career, so forgive my verbosity. ;) Actually Oct. '08 is sort of a turning point too, as that's when I'll decide if I'm staying in Seattle or not. I appreciate your ideas and gumption, Leif, and definitely would like to hear more people chime in!

Awesome thread. In a year, I'll be earning a living as a writer by writing about things that I am passionate about, not just things that pay.

For the record, last year at this time I set the goal of earning a living as a freelance writer. 6 months later, I was there so I have high hopes!

see you in a year! ;)

Okay, I'll get on that wagon! By Oct. '08 I will be making a full time salary with my writing business alone and will have purchased a fabulous investment property deal! I'm on my way! What a great way to hold each other accountable!

    Me Next!

    My Declaration:

By Oct. 2008... My Concierge, LLC is a respected, well- known and highly sought after company in Seattle and the Puget Sound area. Helping a minimum of (25) 3-5 hours weekly, consistent clients. I have hired an awesome assistant who is working full time. My Concierge, LLC fully financially supports my lifestyle and there's more than enough abundance to go to France for two weeks.

    Merci'

    It's all about the experience.

Goodness, Gracious, Great Goals of Fire everyone!

Put a little reminder in your calendar to check back with this thread in a year (I did).

I'm starting to think that maybe a post "I dare you 2.1" is in order in which you dare yourself to achieve a specific goal for next month.

BTW, for those of you like this idea (publicly declaring your goal), which apparently a lot of you do, thats the idea behind my podcast "The QuestCast" --except that we work together to decide on some goal/quest to achieve in the next two weeks. Anyone, go to www.TheQuestCast.com and check it out and, if you're interested, I'm hoping it start it back up within a month --you can be one of the first 'questers' on the new show.

    My turn!

By this time next year, I will have my non-profit, the National Council for Women's Business and Education, (http://www.ncwbe.org), fully up and running, offering scholarships to women and mothers, and helping women through the higher education process.

I also hope that my Intracranial Hypertension will be in remission. But let's hope that happens before the end of 2007.

    Great thread, Leif!!

By October of 2008 my two companies, Working Artists LLC [WA] and Self Employed Creative Professionals [SECP] will be household words in the homes and business of self-employed artists and creatives throughout Oregon and Washington. WA and SECP will have achieved this level of recognition by delivering real solutions, to real problems and challenges faced by creative people who work for themselves, who are achieving phenomenal results in their work and lives because of the programs and services we offer.

My business partners and I (both my LLC partners AND our strategic partners) will enjoy a steady stream of income that surpasses our need, with plenty of resources to invest/reinvest in programs/investment accounts/savings programs that are meaningful to us.

Oh, and I'll be dating the man of my dreams. ;-)

My goal has been reached.I have been maried to the partner of my dreams for coming on to 57 years and our bi product has done well. It is 11 children all who are out of jail now and paying Income taxes. Except JJ who went to meet the Lord. He lived 10 days and I guess he did not like what he saw in the world. Poverty, injustice, war, etc, etc, so he went to live with God. I took up his challenge and will try to make the world better in my limited way. Love yu all. John La Russa

By October 2008 I will be completely out of debt and I will have rebuilt my retirement savings by at least $10,000 over my maximum allowable retirement deposits for the year. (I was in a bad accident where I could not work for quite a while and am climbing out of the financial hole that caused!)

By October 2008 I will also be netting over $5000 a month from Vivid Visuals and most of my clients will be repeating clients or referred to me by word of mouth.

Leif, I also like your 2.1 dare and am willing to go for it. But I will not be ready to state the goal I will achieve in the next month until the end of this week. Lots of decisions to make!

In October 2008, my goals are that these statements will be true:

    • My company, BitPusher, will have already brought in revenues greater than 3x what we earned in 2007
    • I will have hired two systems administrators, and a tools developer to replace all of my technical operational duties, allowing me to focus 100% on business development.
    • I will open up our second datacenter, either in Virginia, in the UK
    • My wife and I will own a second company producing $4k/month in revenue to be put directly into a SEP.
    • My wife, Kaylee, and I will have moved to another country.
    • I will have completed writing my short-topic book on Datacenter Management, and my editor will no longer be angry at me :)

Also, i will be having more business contacts.

    More of international exposure.

And many more of fame under my name.

Wow, somehow I missed seeing the last section of great replies --Good luck, courage and skill everyone!

Also, note that I just added the slightly riskier 'end of year' post called "I dare you 2.1" for those wanting a little more timely challenge. (: I think it will be fun to check back on this one in a year, and the 2.1 in only 2 months! (:
