I agree a good deal with your point about looking more professional and in doing so that attracts more clients.
It's hard to convey this to those individuals who think their service/portfolio is what will really carry them, when its actually a combination of those things + proper branding which equates consumer trust.
It's the same thought as: you wouldn't want to buy a BMW from a dealer if their brochure was a b&w Kinko's copy that looked like your neighbor could have done a better job. It just wouldn't hold the same look&feel you associate with a prestigious brand like BMW.
And this is why smart companies hire us.
