4 Crucial Questions For Planning Success
Planning is a complex process. But before you actually start planning here are 4 questions that will help guarantee the plan you create gives you the results you crave!
Plans are an important part of success. Actually they are the #5 most important part of success which means there are 4 more important elements. However, without a bold and well designed plan you still may not get the results you crave! So it is time to ask yourself if you have the right plan that will bring you the right set of results.
Too often business professionals rely on “seat of the pants” navigation. That skill can be invaluable when you are managing a crisis. But as long term results creation goes…it kinda sucks. What you need is a plan that includes the right elements that will lead you to success.
In this case you can define success as “achieving the desired results in the desired timeframe.” In order to get this plan you need to start with some very specific elements. To create and effective plan begin by asking yourself these questions.
What are the accomplishments I want to achieve?
The accomplishments you need to identify are the steps toward your ultimate goals. These may be skills you need to acquire, small activities or objectives or large projects that define an end result. Each of the accomplishments you list needs to have a purpose in what it provide or how it will support the larger plan.
What are my desired results?
Your results are independent of any particular accomplishment and represent what the reasons that drive you towards accomplishment. These elements of your plan will define the motivation or reason for the plan. Results are often emotions or broader defined changes. Your results may be financially motivated or directed by a desire to create something.
What is in my control?
Great plans can still fail if too many factors are out of the control of those implementing the plan. It is important to have a clear understanding of what you can affect, how you can affect it, when you can affect it and what you need to affect it. Design your objectives and accomplishment around the items that you have the greatest ability to change and have the largest impact.
What could get in my way?
Good business professionals remember that part of planning is also planning for the unexpected. Some obstacles are predicated and having a method of dealing with them minimizes their impact. You also need to attempt to predict the unpredictable. At least having an idea of what might happen can take the fear and shock out of it even if you do not have a predefined solution.
Creating The Plan
After you have answers to these questions you can begin to create the actual plan itself. As you do so make sure you keep your ansers to these questions in mind. That will greatly facility the plan's development.
You will have a lot more questions you need to answer in the process too. But your answers here will give you a foundation to build a plan that gives you the results you really want most!
