Do you ever wish that you had more energy throughout the day? How many more sales, more clients and much more success would you have if you didn't crash at 2 pm every afternoon? Do you find yourself reaching for a Red Bull or a Frappuccino just to get through the day? What if you could breeze through your conference calls, client meetings, teleseminars, and blogging and still have plenty of energy left for that Biznik after hours event?

Here are tips to help you have sustained, super energy all day long.

Cereal is NOT the Breakfast of Champions. If you currently eat breakfast, you most likely eat something that is high in sugar and/or refined flours. 80% of Americans have been brainwashed into eating some kind of cereal for breakfast. (Just because gymnast Shawn Johnson is on the front of the box, does not mean you will sign an Olympic sized deal today.) Cereal digests very quickly, even the low-sugar kinds. This gives you a quick surge of fake energy, but will leave you crashing 30-60 minutes later. You want sustained energy, which you will get from whole grains like oatmeal, along with some high quality protein.

Eat Turkey for Breakfast or some other type of high quality protein. This is the most important thing you can eat at breakfast if you want to be on top of your game all day. Protein digests slowly, which will provide you with sustained energy. Good choices of high quality protein for breakfast include eggs, chicken, turkey bacon, ham, cottage cheese and even (sometimes) protein powder. (If you are a vegetarian, don't fret. Creating a high quality protein is as simple as combining a whole grain and a legume. Beans and rice or peanut butter on whole wheat toast are two examples.) Even if you are having trouble giving up your Krispy Kreme, at least add the protein to help slow down your digestion. After several weeks, you will probably find you no longer want the sweet stuff.

Don't be a Pig at Lunch. Even though Barry the Banker is picking up your tab at Ruth's Chris, now is not the time to overindulge. Eat a solid lunch, including protein, whole grains and plenty of vegetables, but don't stuff yourself. Digestion takes more energy than any other process in your body, so go easy this time of day. An overfull stomach is the surest way to Sleepy Town. You don't want to start falling asleep at your desk during your 2:30 pm conference call with the CEO of Computer Town. Bonus: Now that you are eating a solid breakfast, you won't be ravished by noon anyway.

An Apple a Day Keeps Sleepiness Away. Lunch and dinner are just too far apart. The Hersey's company figured this out a long time ago when they installed vending machines in every office building. Side-step the Snickers at 4 pm, and instead grab an apple and a handful of nuts. I realize that this will take a little forethought on your part, but you want Super Hero energy all day, right?!? Don't worry; this doesn't have to be complicated: a piece of fruit and some nuts, a small tuna sandwich on whole wheat, or leftovers from lunch (since you didn't stuff yourself). Again: get a little protein. Just stay away the super junk food in the vending machine!
