  <body>&lt;p&gt;Your &lt;strong&gt;sphere of influence&lt;/strong&gt; are those people who know, like and trust you. Your sphere includes your past clients and others who have referred business to you, or potentially could refer people to you. Calling and visiting with your sphere is a &quot;warm&quot; call since these people already know you which means familiarity and credibility.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Independent business people (real estate agents, loan officers, insurance and financial consultants, business and life coaches, painters, massage therapists. etc) all have repeat customers, and can build their businesses by staying personally connected with the people in their sphere. I know it works because I personally do it, and so do many of my clients.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Here are 5 tips to &quot;Get Your Sphere in Gear&amp;reg;&quot; &lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;1.   &lt;strong&gt;Be Proactive&lt;/strong&gt; - take control of your business by calling or meeting with people who know, like and trust you. Most independent business professionals depend too much on &quot;Reactive&quot; marketing such as mailings, e-mail, and ads - all of which have people calling you. Proactive marketing is about you picking up the phone to talk or meet with people who know you. You are taking control of your business and your success!&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;2.   &lt;strong&gt;Be Fearless&lt;/strong&gt; - identify and move beyond your fears and self limiting beliefs that get in your way of personally connecting with your sphere. Most people have some fear (fear of rejection, not knowing what to say, being viewed like a used car salesman) and limiting beliefs (people don't want to really get a call from me, they are too busy) that prevent them from staying personally connected to their sphere. Until you confront your fears and limiting beliefs, they will keep you captive and stuck.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;3.   &lt;strong&gt;Know Why&lt;/strong&gt; - what are the important  reasons you want more referrals and business? It isn't just about more money. What, specifically, would you do with more money? Visit your children, give to your favorite charity, attend a family reunion, help a needy family in your community, visit your parents. How about the impact on your quality of life (more time to spend with friends and family). The more specific the reasons, the more excited and motivated you will be to do what it takes to stay personally connected to your sphere.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;4.   &lt;strong&gt;Keep it Simple&lt;/strong&gt; - don't make it complicated. There are three basic steps:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;a.   Identify everyone who is in your Sphere and put their contact information in a database (ACT, Outlook)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;b.   Call or meet with the people in your Sphere every 3 months&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;c.   Send them a handwritten card after you talk or meet.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;It is not rocket science, but it does require discipline. Which leads to Tip #5.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;5.   &lt;strong&gt;Develop the Habit&lt;/strong&gt; - the important things in our life, which we want to do every day, require us to develop a habit.  We shower, we brush our teeth, we exercise (hopefully), we eat, we sleep, and we connect with the people in our sphere each day. The more we develop a routine and do it every day, the more likely it will happen and the more success we will experience.&lt;/p&gt;
