As Society Turns
Discussing the evolution of Big corporate stores to local business takeovers .....
I have owned my own business since 2004, producing and hosting my own band and dj events in the seattle area. It began with something I loved to do and wanted to help out friends but led to a natural talent of mine. So the beginning years were hard work, long hours and not enough pay to survive, but I survived over the years until financial hardship forced entry back into the working world. Although it was a burst to my ego it wasn't like I couldnt work and produce my events in the evening, nothing like working two jobs and having a family. As our economy grew worse, I had been thankful to have a job, however last May that ended abrubtly with a layoff, then more layoffs, friends being laid off, family and so on ... What the hell is going on?
As time ticks away, I have noticed a GRAND trend, and one I am extremely excited about. The Rise of local businesses and the FALL of corporate bullshit bullies! Since I had been laid off I decided it was time to really take time to focus all my energy on my business and I started to see a trend. More & More local businesses, mothers working from home, networking and locals joining forces to create a strong "local" community, and bring fourth "Support Locals" campaign!
After watching Food, Inc. recently as well I also realized that mass market food and corporations are NOT creating the most healthy food products for us or our generation, and quickly learned that the mass giants are such bullies that they have forced many farmers into debt and dispair! My grandparents were farmers, 100 acres in Rosanky, Texas, they raised mostly cows and chickens, but what I "knew" to be the norm is not the norm now! I increasingly felt the need to support our local farmers as well, as not only to help our community in which we live, but to also eat "healthy" food and not manufactured chickens or cattle !
I have really been awakened recently as to all that goes on in our society with BIG corporate bullies and I will not stand by and let them take over and poison our minds and our bodies for the sake of money! I encourage all of you to take a look at what you buy and where you buy and who you buy from, It does make a difference. Support your community and your friends !
I must say personally I am very excited & I will support anyone local in our community in any way I can, I remember my parents owned their own company and my mom stayed at home with us (although I didn't like it then-haha) I like the fact now, that I too can stay at home with my children and help them to be better business minded & respectable individuals!
This is what I wanted to share, Stick with your business, the wheels are turning towards us locals & we must fight to stick together and support each other!
Thanks for reading,
Becci
