Thanks for the resources on color psychology. We've been discussing it recently in our office.
Colours for Your Business
Very nice and useful colour schemes can help your business. Here's a few examples.
Colours and psychology is a key part of business and is one of the important aspects of succesfull brand identity. Hand in hand with good marketing and graphic design, colours can help with identity in a business. If you'd like to explore more about colours in business, i've found a really nice site about colour psychology at:
(Kandra Van Wagner) http://psychology.about.com/od/sensationandperception/a/colorpsych.htm
There you can also find about colours and his healing aspect. Here's what's really interresting:
- Red was used to stimulate the body and mind and to increase circulation.
- Yellow was thought to stimulate the nerves and purify the body.
- Orange was used to heal the lungs and to increase energy levels.
- Blue was believed to soothe illnesses and treat pain.
- Indigo shades were thought to alleviate skin problems.
Also about psychology of the colours for, example, the most-used colour in a business: BLUE
- Blue is described as a favorite color by many people and is the color most preferred by men.
- Blue calls to mind feelings of calmness or serenity. It is often described as peaceful, tranquil, secure, and orderly.
- Blue can also create feelings of sadness or aloofness.
- Blue is often used to decorate offices because research has shown that people are more productive in blue rooms.
- Blue is one of the most popular colors, but it is one of the least appetizing. Some weight loss plans even recommend eating your food off of a blue plate. Blue rarely occurs naturally in food aside from blueberries and some plums. Also, humans are geared to avoid foods that are poisonous and blue coloring in food is often a sign of spoilage or poison.
- Blue can also lower the pulse rate and body temperature.
- Consider how blue is used in language: blue moon, blue Monday, blue blood, the blues, and blue ribbon.
The most important part in a graphic design is using complementary colours, perhaps for logo is it not an rule, because lot of succesful logos use not much complementary colours , but its perfect guide how to made a logo with a good feeling. Also the prejudice that strong colour schemes such as red and blue , yellow and red or blue and green is every better than " washed" is not usually truth because for example for beauty industry, for mode, for health...there is soft colour schemes very useful. I will say that its not rule which colour scheme is most useful for business . Try explore psychology of the colours from the link above and decide by your heart hand in hand with marketing strategy about colours of your business....but keep in mind that colour is really important and strong part of your business identity. For beginners is really good "value for money" using this link at the Before and After Magazine, which emphasize also on the colours in a graphic design and the link is here http://www.bamagazine.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=P1450000
This is really cleared in a easy understanding form, how to create and use complementary colours in a logo or in a graphic business.
Well...so you still think that your new logo will be best in a blue colour? Try to be creative, explore about your customer's mind and THINK!

Very interesting article, Petr.
I've recently been thinking about colour trends and how it may affect our business.
For example, green is big recently. Even Biznik is using it - very nicely, I might add! :}
Do you think that the colours that are a la mode have an impact upon our business?

Thank You Marianna, I dont think that colours a la mode can directly impact an long term business, but usually its good watching colour trends for product design. For a long term business i think is important choose good colour at the begin, and this is the reason exploring colour psychology, because good choosen colours can usually positive appeal on customers (for example colours of McDonalds are represent happiness and succes).

Thanks for the article. I truly think that colors effect how we live our lives, and how our businesses are received.
Color represents such subconcious level in our mind we don't realize the impact it has on us. Whether it is our logos, offices, or even what we wear, it all sends off different vibrations that will either attract or repel others.
I will check out your resources. Thanks again.
