Thanks Dr. Perry for the inspiring article. Much appreciated and well written!
One teeny typo - sorry can't help myself. "He was willing too." should be "He was willing to." (I know you know that, just did a typo).
Best to you, Jan
Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits ones self, then providence moves too.
I had a patient Mark sometime back who came to me with a lower back disc injury. The problem was causing him severe pain that caused him to limp constantly, and he was not able to sleep at night. He told me that he did not want to have surgery and asked if I could help. I told him that I could help, and that 9 times out of 10 I keep people from needing surgery anyway with this type of condition, if they are willing to follow through with the needed care. He was willing too.
I treated him 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 8 weeks with little relief of his back and leg pain. The treatments were opening his body to heal better but he wasn’t getting out of pain. It was frustrating to see a grown man in such pain and taking “so long” to get better. But, he was committed to getting better without surgery and I knew the care was helping him to be healthier, so we continued.
Finally at the 12 weeks he started feeling better. Within days his pain decreased dramatically and shortly he was able to walk pain free and once again sleep through the night. He was very happy! To date this was the longest it ever took for someone to feel better at Lakeview Center Chiropractic, from this type of injury, and is a great example of this month's tip and one man’s “Commitment to hang in there”.
The reason I mention this story is two fold, one it gives you an example of results you can get when you commit to getting a certain result with your health and then hang in there until it’s achieved, and two it gives you an example of what commitment can do in your life period, create results!
I would like to share with you an excerpt from the book The Scottish Himalayan Expedition that furthers this second point of how commitment can work to create greater success in your life:
…Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits ones self, then providence moves too.
All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way.
I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe’s couplets:
Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.
--W.H. Murray, Scottish Mountainier
This is a quotation that I have come back to time and time again in life when I feel that all hope might be lost for me. If it inspires you I welcome you to enjoy it as well. I wish you success with your life. If you have questions about how to implement this concept in your life or want to learn more about how to create your dreams in health or life feel free to send me a message, or join me at one of our Win Win networking events in Kirkland, and we can discuss it more!
Best Wishes,
