Facebook Groups Experiment: Two Month Update

I've been working with the new FB Groups to see if they can produce results. Seems like they do. Here's my report.

Its now been two months since I began my experiment to see what online traffic impact I could generate using FB groups, and the results continue to expand.  I currently have 12 FB Groups, and people tell me that I’ve created a “platform.”  I know that I’ve created a something that produces results, but I’m not sure what to label it.

The first and largest of my FB Groups “Global Citizens” has 4,500 plus members, and the average for the other groups is about 2,000 members each.  In addition, every day I get about ten requests to join one of the Groups, and that number continues to grow.

I post just about daily in one or more of the Groups, which was an issue until I accumulated enough good content that I have begun to repost it after six weeks or so.  Although I can’t attest to the source of the increased traffic, I have noticed that traffic to my website tripled to about 600 hits per day, it has now leveled off at between 400 and 500 views per day.

This experiment required many hours to build , but it is paying off for others and myself. Thus far, one client has found the process to be rewarding and viable in building their business and social media creditability.

It seemed to be an important factor when I was recently invited to blog at Huffington Post.  And now the FB Groups are very useful in spreading the word when I make a Huffington Post blog post.  My initial post received over 500 FB Likes in a matter of a few days after I spread the word using several of the FB Groups.

My primary FB Groups strategy was to post inspirational quotes with graphics and the link to a website.  Then, I realized that any event I post can automatically be sent to all group members.  One click of a button, and I tell 4500 people about the event.  Pretty slick for spreading the word quickly, especially if the event is a web or phone event that anyone can attend.

Another element that seems to be working well is the viral nature of FB Groups when you have content that people like.  Two months into the experiment, I’m getting about ten people per day asking to join one of the groups, and some people are just putting their FB Friends into the groups.

The Group with the most traction at the moment is my “Gratitude” group.  Sometimes, I simply post the question “What are you grateful for today?” and watch the replies.  This is not generating business for me, but it has created some inquiries about collaboration.  Also, this is the perfect FB Group for folks whose business revolves around service, and gratitude is both an evergreen topic and becoming more popular.

Personally, I love the FR Groups portal.  It offers instant access to thousands of people and allows me to provide a much-needed voice for the subject of my books, my teacher Buckminster Fuller.  It’s also given me more creditability as well brought in new possibilities for generation of business.  In other words, it’s been worth the time and effort.

Steven, I'm thrilled to hear of your success, and even happier that you're sharing it with us! :-)

You've also inadvertently answered a query of mine, of whether or not I should develop a free e-course on my Gratitude Formula as a potential opt-in. Sounds like gratitude is on the rise... a good thing for all of us!

Now I'll have to go find that group on FB...
