<p><strong>Keep Your Mouth Shut...And It'll All Get Better...Right?</strong></p> <p>How did we get from an infant nation who resented a 3% tax imposed on us by England to a nation who seems to yawn at a virtual 50% + tax rate? It seems a bit like the old "frog in a pot of water" story. You know...where you put a frog in room temperature water and slowly raise the temperature until he boils.</p> <p>The difference is...most of America isn't boiling. And the temperature has been turned up for a long time now.</p> <p>Show me a nation that ever taxed itself into prosperity. No...nations and empires have a long history of taxing themselves out of existence. And ours looks to be no exception.</p> <p><strong>Have You Considered Why Our Government Needs So Much Money?</strong></p> <p>I've noticed roads, bridges, and other infrastructure across America in terrible decline the past couple of decades. Coincidentally, at the same time there has been a huge increase in what's known as "social spending". I'm sure it's just coincidence. Aren't you?</p> <p>I've also noticed a national jihad against smoking (and don't get me wrong...I'm no smoker, and I hate the nasty habit). Public service announcements have flooded the airwaves. Politicians and celebritites have taken countless hours of TV and radion time to denounce smoking. And government representatives have spent countless tax dollars taking the tobacco companies to task.</p> <p>Meanwhile...the language has become increasingly vulgar and profane and commonplace. Yet, I see no uproar from anyone of prominence on this matter.</p> <p>Our tax dollars are also being used to fund art which at best is questionable and at worst despicable and offensive. And tax dollars are spent on such things as...</p> <ul> <li>teaching kids how to put condoms on bananas</li> <li>teaching kids there's no such thing as "right or wrong"</li> <li>teaching kids it's OK to squeal on your parents, but you don't have to tell them if you're pregnant and want to get an abortion</li> <li>and other equally "important" life skills</li> </ul> <p><strong>If You Weren't Taxed So Much, You'd Be Much More Successful</strong></p> <p>Do you realize that if your tax rate was fair and just, an average middle class worker could live like a celebrity? And even the lowest of the lower class could have all their needs met...with plenty of wants thrown in.</p> <p>Don't get me wrong. I'm not one of those who advocates no income tax. If you're going to live in a free enterprise society, you need to contribute to the oiling of the machinery to keep it free and full of enterprise. However; that could easily be done with about a 5% tax rate on every citizen. Yep...5%.</p> <p>"That's impossible!", you say.</p> <p>"You're exactly right.", I reply..."if we can't control the spenders. And if we can't discern right from wrong."</p> <p><strong>Imagine this...</strong></p> <p>You work hard and make $5000 a month. Uncle Sam (and his state, county, &amp; city relatives) comes along with his hand out and says (or should I say demands?) "Give us half!"</p> <p>You're now left with $2500 to pay your mortgage and all other bills for the month. So, you look for ways to sacrifice, scrimp, and save. And somehow you manage...most of the time...until the government decides to bail out car companies, insurance companies, mortgage companies (maybe even the one you send checks to) and others.</p> <p>Then, you realize even more of your money and even the money of kids who aren't even born yet will be going to these political causes. All in the name of salvation for our nation.</p> <p><strong>Now Imagine this...</strong></p> <p>You work hard and earn $5000 a month. Uncle Sam (and the others) know they're only getting 5%, so they'd better stay on budget and spend wisely. They'll work diligently to see to it we have excellent bridges, roads, highways, and airways. And they'll make sure our defense and criminal justice system is strong, moral, and secure.</p> <p>Then you're left with $4750 to pay those same bills. Almost twice as much as you have under the current system.</p> <p>Don't you think your standard of living would be greatly improved? And don't you think we'd have the best infrastructure in the world? And the safest country?</p> <p>And with that much extra capital you could invest in your family's well-being. You'd be able to provide for them on a much higher and much more enjoyable level. Moms could stay home with their kids if they wanted, and they wouldn't have to worry that one income wouldn't be enough. Because Uncle Sam wouldn't be stealing our money to give to someone else.</p> <p>Ah...now that's a dream worth dreaming.</p> <p>Remember this (if nothing else in this article): anytime you forcibly take money from one person to give to another...this is called stealing.
