Even if one is not comfortable when having a photoshoot, it is important to remember that this time in front of the camera is a frozen moment. This means that no matter what, what you end up looking like is going to last a long, long time. So here is a bit of advise.

Practice at home in front of a mirror. Remember when you were young, and were goofing off alone? The mirror was your best friend! You made faces, fluffed your hair, and posed just to see how others might see you. Remember some of those poses when you get to the studio. For me, my nose is long and not too attractive, so I have to practice not looking down too much.

Think of something that was fun and made you laugh. Nothing looks worse than a person who has a forced smile. Before your photoshoot, write down a few incidences that were amusing to you and concentrate on those as the camera is working. Someone once said that one can image the audience naked. If that works and puts a genuine smile on your face, go for it!

Romance the camera. Your eyes are the mirror to you. Dead looking eyes don’t sell you or your business. Pretend the photographer is not there, just the camera. Pretend you are alone in the room with the camera. If you can forget about other people in the room, you will relax. Thank of how actors pose in front of cameras. They appear relaxed. You be the actor. Allow the camera to be your lover. Looking delicious is easy, when you think romance. And how inviting is that?

Wear something that looks just fabulous. Do go for the glamourous, unless you are in that business. Fabulous means when you wear it, people often tell you how much they like what you have on. Fabulous does NOT mean your lounge wear when you are at home watching TV. Think of who your target audience is, and who has the money. You want to look good for that person.

If your teeth or skin are a mess...It is understandable to not want to smile if your teeth are really crooked or very yellow or your skin is not cooperating. Here is a clue…some photographers can do some after effects help you look better. Professional models and actors insist on after effects, you can, too. If you just don’t want to smile, there are many poses that will convey who you are. However, remember you want to look approachable, not scary. I love to glance through fashion magazines to get an idea of what the pros are doing. Discuss your concerns with the photographer before you begin. You might be surprised and the suggestions.

Lastly, remember this is Hollywood, and thousands of eyes are going to look at the end result of your photoshoot. Dress appropriately, brush your teeth, get your hair cut/done, wear a bit of makeup so your nose and forehead don't shine, and think happy thoughts. You want to invite people into your business link, not scare them away.
