This week in comments of some articles here on Biznik there has been some anti-American statements cloaked in false Patriotism. It seems to me that extreme groups use the freedom of speech to make wild assertions about what our country is all about. My personal distain is for the people who focus on the President. I was shocked by the Republican Party reaction to the President’s address to Congress. It was shameful that the world would see such disrespect for our system of government.

Let’s be clear that laws are made and passed by Congress. The President is Commander and Chief with the duty of addressing Congress on the State of the Union. The President can give information to the Congress. Having the President point out that our systems are flawed and need attention is what the President is charged to do.

This country was founded by small business owners. These people objected to being saddled with foreign demands for taxes that went back over seas. Taxation without representation was the battle cry. Well we are represented, and our money should be staying here.

You will not find a standing army on foreign soil, or right to invade in the Constitution. We just had seven years of dumping billions of dollars over seas and the American People calling that patriotic. Now that we have an absolute economic melt down our government is supposed to leave that alone. How is it more American to let the economy flounder than invading an oil rich country over a possible threat of Weapons of Mass Destruction?

I doubt very much that our founding fathers would look kindly on the mega corporations we have today. I would think a hundred or thousand small auto companies competing for the best design would be more American. Having the Big Three is un-American in my opinion. Having the government, through excessive regulation, stifle competition in automobiles was the problem. Public safety was a concern, but regulating safety features could have made the industry more viable.

Banking should be heavily regulated. Debt has enslaved people since the beginning of time. Bankruptcy is specifically mentioned in the Constitution. No one should be saddled with excessive interest and fees. Banking especially should be held at least to State levels if not regional.

It would be hard for any one to imagine Insurance. We have lived with it our entire lives and it makes no sense to me. How does paying a company that does nothing help any economy? If anything, this should be a regional banking matter. If some one is in trouble the community can chip in to help through the rough times. It should be a regional decision. It should be a matter for the community.

That brings us to the dreaded discussion of Communism and how un-American that is.

Well our founding fathers were land owners. They had experienced the oppression of nobility. There are provisions that no one should have titles. People gathered in towns, made laws, shared ideas, and labor. Promoting the Public Welfare was something nobility never imagined. Nobility took from the people then hid behind castle walls. In my opinion that’s exactly what mega corporations do today with government support.

The independent business owner was the press, the mercantile, the stores, services, and the gathering establishments. Farmers have a tendency to think in terms of set backs, gains, good years, and bad. Farming communities have a tendency to self regulate. In my imagination I think of a barn raising after a fire, or sharing food in the winter. Barter, trade, borrowing and lending get people through life.

Community is where people congregate to promote the public welfare. Where things went wrong is when we began to again worship Robber Barons rather than out laws. This country was founded by out laws. Our basic Rights and principles of government are based on small independents. We are a system of laws that protect the people in our communities. There is nothing in the Constitution, or Declaration of Independence that says Big Banks, or Insurance Corporations should have a right to excessive profit.

The Constitution of the United States and the Declaration of Independence is about the People governing for themslves, defending themselves. It's about independent business owners who band together to Promote the Pulic Welfare.
