Many people make themselves miserable and become paralyzed by resisting the changes in front of them. If you, or people you work with, are in this resistant state, read on!

I believe people get confused about accepting "what is", with "if I accept what is then it will never get better." The two are not the same- you can accept what the current reality is, not like it, and determine to make something else happen instead. That's using your power in healthy ways. Denying that the current reality is occurring just takes you out of the action, and people will work around you. Spinning your wheels though whining or gossiping are unhealthy ways of using your power. In other words, you become a victim and take others down with you. Not very attractive, is it?

When Christopher Reeve became a quadriplegic, he refused to believe he wouldn't walk again. He did accept that at that moment he was paralyzed. He put his name and his goodwill toward the creation of a foundation to help those with spinal chord injuries. I've been to the VA Hospital where state of the art rehab is occurring and have seen pictures of Christopher Reeve "walking". It wasn't the type of walking he had done before his injury, so he had to adjust his definition of what "walking" would be at that time. As a result of Mr. Reeve's vision and taking action, not only was he served, many others have and will benefit.

What's your vision? Do you yearn for previous time when you had a certain income, or a waiting list of clients or customers, or maybe endless ideas for innovation? Do you want to branch out into something altogether different from what you've done in the past? Whatever it is, make it your passion! Figure out where you are now (the current reality), then create a plan to take you toward that vision. You don't need to have the complete plan to get moving, you are allowed to adjust along the way. But taking action is essential.

Even if you wish to attain a goal that you had in the past, realize that the steps you take this time probably won't be the same steps you took last time. Have fun with this creative work- you aren't limited. Consider yourself an artist and keep that critic in you at bay while the artist has its turn. Keep asking yourself "how can I do ____?"

Gather allies to work with you, the more brains for creative thinking, the better. There's nothing as energizing as a team of people committed to a common purpose and taking action.

Will you succeed in achieving your vision? You certainly have more of a chance than if you are sitting around worried that the sky is falling. And you'll have a heck of a lot more fun. Once you are taking action, you have no idea of what might turn up in your path. If you keep your eyes and mind open, those happy accidents are there to help you. Go for it- you can do it!
