Many of you have money to spend, and now is the time to hire someone to do something for you. What has changed all
of a sudden is the velocity of money. Because the amount of money before the economic collapse is the same amount
of money in our economy now. What has changed is the amount of times it passes hands. If we simply keep it moving, more folks will have opportunities to use it and the economy will start rolling again.

I'm not advocating going to a store like Walmart or Sears and buying wantingly. Since the American economy has become a service economy, it would be more productive to hire a small business person to perform their service for you. Take for instance, me a paint contractor. Everyone has a place in their home that needs refreshing with paint, for whatever reason. It could be failing paint on a ceiling, wall or trim, or it could be moisture related or cracked. A room or rooms need a new color to brighten up or change the energy in your space. Anyway, you hire
me, I hire a helper, and the paint store gets busy. We go out for lunch and I buy gas from the gas station and you get the picture, money starts moving again.

We have to do our part to revive the economy on a grass roots level. The New Administration can't help us little guys, it seems that they have their sites set on big projects like roads, highways and bridges. I don't know about you, but I'm not going to be involved in that. Maybe some project manager will make a lot of money and hire me to paint their house but that's still aways off. We have to help each other to make it through this slow period.

For instance, we discovered a leak in our plumbing under the sink in our bathroom so we hired a handyman to fix the leak. Since there was evidence of mold we figured we should replace the vanity. Well you don't just replace the vanity, you need a sink, a faucet, a counter top, and installer for each of those. And while you're at it you find you need to rethink the decore in the bathroom and replace the dated medicine cabinet, improve the lighting, replace the old blue slightly leaky water wasting toilet, put in new flooring, get a new shower curtain and paint. So we are stimulating the local economy by hiring local people and affecting many lives and spending at least five grand. (Which of course will improve the value of our home and will be recouped when we sell the house). Do we have to do all this? No. Does it make a difference? Yes.

By the way, what has surprised me the most about this process has been the lack of follow through. We went to at least 10 places looking for a vanity. We asked for quotes and only 3 places actually did the work and sent us a price. I was shocked by the poor response. The same could be said for counter top suppliers. Maybe they have so much business they don't need anymore, must be nice. One little vanity or one countertop isn't going to make or break any business but these are $600 or more each and would certainly pay for the effort.

So, the bottom line is moving money amoung the community and doing the little things that will help us all. And when given the opportunity for business don't ignore it.
