Finding a parallel between storytelling and romance kept my attention because it sounds so comical and I like to smile. Both subjects have far to many under qualified people actually participating. But hopefully, as each experience happens, one learns more about one's options and keeps discovering more about oneself through positive interaction with people we trust.

A movie can only be as good as it's story.

Storytelling is like romance. Is it memorable or not? How long can you keep someone's attention and just as important, would they come back for another story? Your ability to artfully tease, tickle and feed peoples imagination is key. Then, to deliver the enjoyment, which hopefully, is as good or even better than the receiving part of this sharing experience is your reward. The delivery of great storytelling can be a feather in your cap and a joy for all.

Let's look at this simply.

There's a beginning, a middle and an end. All are of equal in importance. All areas deserve immense respect and tailored attention to detail. Add in mental, physical and spiritual anecdotes which will tease the imagination and supply the ying and yang of situations as they arrive. Laziness can dampen any efforts. One should always strive for perfection, understanding that realistically you won't actually achieve it. But, like the old saying "shoot for the moon and you'll at least get above the clouds", this type of approach will supply plenty of future success in storytelling.

The Beginning or Foreplay:

Need I say more? Many stories are quick, but rarely memorable. Build a stairway that continually draws you up or down with tempting views that feed ones curiosity.

The objective is to keep your audiennce on the edge of their seat. Lead the horse with the carrot. Each time allowing the horse to have a bite, then forging ahead continuing a journey of expansive artistic expression for your audience. Again, the more you can tap into your audience's imagination the better. Basically leading them to a door that hopefully, when they arrive, they'll be chompin' at the bit to open that door.

The Middle or the meat of the sandwich:

Remember to dress up your gourmet meal because the audience opened up and walked through your door. Now give them a chance to enjoy the feast you have prepared. Be elaborate. You want people to remember this and to tell others. There's no better endorsement than word of mouth testimonials.

The End or Afterplay:

Serve up dessert and drinks with a warm fire or use your imagination to finish off an unforgettable experience. Whether you end with massage, cuddling or just simply connecting mentally or spiritually, somehow, put the cherry on the cake.

Then pick that cherry up and share it. Now finish the last gulp of your beverage. Ahhh.

Don't you already feel better and more relaxed towards your next storytelling moment. Most of us rarely know when the next opportunity might arise. Effort usually equates with quality. Keep in mind these easy steps concerning the essence of storytelling. Give storytelling the personal attention it deserves and your phone might just ring off the hook for business. Just what you were hoping, right?

See, storytelling really is like romance! Feel free to have a smoke.
