I'm frequently asked how a video can help a business grow or help an individual generate a following as a leader in their area of specialization. I think there is no more powerful answer than my own personal experience with the impact of the videos created for Subversionz Media.

Recently, the Subversionz team took a half day to film short bio videos introducing our key players and their roles in the company. Those videos were then posted to our website, our Facebook page, and our Biznik profile and we sent out links to the videos through Twitter. And the results were stunning.

Within one week we receive 10 times the number of views of the Biznik profile than we had prior to posting the videos. We more than tripled the number of fans of our Facebook page and the number of interactions with the Facebook page sky rocketed as fans posted links to the videos on their own pages. Traffic to our website increased and we gained dozens of new followers on Twitter. The amount of positive feedback we received about the videos, online and in face to face conversations was amazing.

I've heard similar stories from several other people about the impact of video on their business. And the scale of the project doesn't necessarily impact the effectiveness of the video's ability to generate buzz around your business.

On the higher production quality end of the spectrum, one business owner I know is best known for two instructional videos that he posted on his website years ago. To this day people are still coming to his business because those two videos convinced them that he is extremely knowledgeable about his industry and the services that he provides, that he is easy to work with, and that he will guide them through what can seem like an intimidating process.

One social media guru that I have the pleasure of knowing took the opposite approach and has attracted thousands of viewers to the videos he created himself with a web camera, iphones, and ipods. Just this past week, one of his videos passed 50 thousand views on YouTube and was featured on Chris Brogan's blog, which is a massive amount of interest to generate with a simple, clever concept and a little ingenuity.

Creating a powerful video doesn't always have to be a major production. Every business has a story to tell and every story can be told in a hundred different ways. And each story you want to tell will have different goals.

The Subversionz bio videos were created to give people an opportunity to meet the Subversionz team before working with us to give potential clients an idea of who we are, how we work, and the passion and playfulness in our approach to video production.

The business owner used his videos to provide step by step information on how he provides his service and what to expect along the way. His videos simplify a complicated process, answer all of the most common questions about his services, and ease potential clients fears by giving them a good understanding of what his business does before they make a commitment.

The social media guru was using video as an opportunity to create something fun, playful, and extremely viral. It didn't give any information, it didn't show any part of him other than his hands, it didn't even promote any particular business or product. It was simply fun, clever, and catchy and drew a huge following because it just made people feel good.

Regardless or your audience, your message, your end goal or call to action, video can capture all of those things in a really powerful way and has the potential to reach a massive global audience thanks to the power of the internet and ever increasing bandwidth.

If creating the video yourself seems too daunting, a good video production company can help you brainstorm the best way to tell your story within your budget.
