When is the last time you got a hand written note or card from someone you do business with? I don't mean from the cashier at the quick-stop, but your accountant or graphic designer. Are they thanking you for your business? Are you thanking your clients for their business? Do you have contact with your clients when you are not discussing business? Most people don't want their accountant calling up to just shoot the breeze. Everyone is busy. Everyone. This is why we all do exactly what we NEED to do for our clients and sending little notes here and there have gradually fallen by the wayside.

However, in this age of lightening e-mail and split second business relationships a long term client recognition program stands out. In his book What Clients Love, Harry Beckwith says "To make clients feel like someone, you cannot treat them like just anyone. Mass mail makes people feel inconsequential. Hand written notes, on the other hand work magic. Take time. Write by hand." We all know the statistics regarding poor customer service, but in case you have forgotten here they are:

For every customer who bothers to complain, there are 26 others who remain silent.

The average "wronged" customer will tell 8 to 16 people.

91% of unhappy customers will never purchase services from you again.

It costs about five times as much to attract a new customer as it costs to keep an old one.

Each one of your customers has a circle of influence of 250 people or potential customers who hear bad things about you!

So, with so many opportunities for people to say bad things about your business maybe you should touch base with your customer in a purely positive way. You won't be asking for anything. Maybe, after you send cards and notes long enough they will open the mailings from your office first. Wouldn't it be something if your correspondence became something your clients looked forward to?

This is where I come in. As I mentioned previously, we are all busy and sending hand written correspondence is definetly not at the top of most of our priority lists. I will send hand written birthday cards, holiday cards, and general correspondence. I will send you a report of what I have sent out so you are never caught off guard. Snap me an e-mail and I can send your client a sympathy card. Yes, it is that simple. Get in touch with me today and lets make a client recognition program that will work for your business. As, you are thinking about how in touch you could be with your clients I will leave you with these numbers from Jill Griffin.

In Customer Loyalty how to earn it? how to keep it? Jill Griffin gives this example:

250 days x 5 notes/days = 1,250 contacts

50 weeks x 5 calls/week = 250 contacts

12 months x 5 contacts/month= 60 contacts

Total contacts = 1,560 contacts per year

What this means to you is:

You can reach 260 people six times a year.

You can reach 390 people four times a year.

You can reach 780 people twice a year.

Consider the impact of 1,560 additional contacts to your business.
