What does it mean to be an architect or designer in 2011? The economy has changed our industry causing layoffs and more competition for fewer projects. What’s a creative person to do?
Take heart. There are opportunities out there if you are willing to engage with – and change with – the marketplace. We hope you will join us for our fourth discussion about the business of architecture. Here you will find colleagues for networking and for brainstorming new ideas.
The economy has changed the marketplace. How has that changed the way you market your services?
How do you cultivate a network of design, building, real estate, or other professionals who support your business?
How do you stay in touch with your former and prospective clients?
The hosts will give a short presentation of an outreach success story followed by a discussion around ways that architects can reach out within our common industry. Come prepared to stretch your mind. This time we’ll have one break out discussion around ways to reach out to former and prospective clients (marketing). You are welcome to bring your lunch, or a colleague.
This event is designed for architects and professionals working in related fields. We will be discussing topics related to the practice of architecture.
The room is reserved until 3 pm. You are all welcome to stay and network after the event.

have a lively discussion, meet other architects and designers, talk with others who have similar and different perspectives and experiences, participate in small and large group dialogues, be invited to collaborate with others present.
Hear about Karen's success with email outreach, share outreach (aka marketing) ideas with colleagues, network with your peers.

Hey Rebecca, Carol, Jacqueline, Nathanael, and Aileen -
I'm glad you're joining us on the 28th. It's a great place to meet and talk with people doing work like you.
I loved the first one, and I'm bringing a friend to this one!
I loved the first one, and I'm bringing a friend to this one!
It's great to see our numbers growing for next week's Forum!
Karen and I would love to hear about the ways in which you stay in touch with your clients and contacts. Tell us right here . . .
At first glance I wasn't sure if I belonged in this group because I'm not an architect, although my Father was. I'm an interior designer and my niche are women Baby Boomers who are experiencing major transistions in their lives that impact how they live in their homes. One of these transistions is aging-in-place. This is a huge demographic and one that will directly affect architects, designers, builders, and realtors. I believe part of marketing successfully is to have a group of like-minded professionals that share a common goal in providing services to a particular client.
I'm really forward to meeting everyone and hopefully providing helpful info.
I am also not an architect, but my purpose is to learn how architects are reaching out to their former, present, and prospective clientele, a question in my business that I wake up to every day. I hope I can also contribute in a small, positive way, as Nancy will be able to do with her design ideas on, and interest in, the aging-in-place market.
I'm sure everyone who has something to contribute will be of benefit to us all. Look forward to connecting.

Thanks for sharing your interests and perspectives, Nancy & Dione.
How we stay in touch with our networks has never been more important. We'll have some fun with that on Monday!
It seems that smaller projects, repairs, upgrades are what people are doing. All the handymen that I have talked to are busy.
Hi Barbara! Last week I signed up for this event, but I'm not showing up on the list..? So, I WILL be there Monday with Susan Straub-Martin.
Ralph - glad to know you are coming!
Since we are now FULL, anyone who finds they are not able to attend, please cancel your RSVP so someone else can sign up.
Great event. The breakout sessions also serve as mini network instances - picked up a lot of ideas.
Claudia - I can't find you on Biznik to credit your attendance . . . help!
Hi Barbara,
Great event today... thank you for hosting!
Joe Hopkins
Both of you, Barbara and Karen, did an oustanding job today. I will be at the next one and I'm going to join the group. Thank you so much.
A very positive energetic meeting today & many new people in addition to the familiar faces. I did not get to meet all the new people F2F, but I will be contacting them via Biznik, email & website reviewing. Archies & IDs need to embrace the marketing methods of today & tomorrow, but reinforce the One On One polite but Professionalism lessons from the past as well.
I would like to collaborate with all of you sometime in the future, if possible, either as a Joint Venture project member Architect or as a Consultant, etc, such as 2D CAD, 3D modeling + rendering, BIM, Green Design, etc. for your projects.
Aside from our great group - thanks Tony, Arne, and Nathanael - I had some terrific conversations after the meeting, learned some amazing things about Steve Johnson's Kite & Lightning software that should sell itself just by its cost-savings benefit, and reconnected with Lu who always proves to be a learning experience for me regarding business and architecture and the importance of networking. Looking forward to associations with all of you and to our next meeting - thanks Barbara and Karen.

Nathanael Washam brought up an interesting topic for marketing : QR CODES. See this CNN article about it & get moving! http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/mobile/03/28/qr.codes.marketing/index.html
Ralph, thanks for mentioning the QR codes. They are a wave we may need to jump on. Keep in mind that the more information/copy you add to your QR, the bigger it physically gets. They can also be just made for a phone number, or the website itself, both of which we have on our website - http://www.weshoot.com - in case you all want to see examples.

Thanks, Ralph, for the barcode info. I've just started seeing them and had no idea what it was about. The article about it was very complete. I'm not sure, however, if it's better to wait awhile for consumers to be more familiar with this marketing idea.
Thanks for all the good follow up comments. That's what this is here for!
Thanks for the article about QR codes, Ralph. Whether or not they are relevant to our clients, it is valuable to know how technology and marketing are developing.
Barbara, Thank you for another great session. you wanted me to post the LinkedIn info I mentioned at the meeting. The LinkedIn Group is Seattle Business Network. Just go to my LinkedIn page and look at my groups. Find the Seattle Business Network Group and click on it to see the once a month networking event. It alternates between the King Cat Theater and The Tea Room in Renton.
Regarding the QR Codes, my amazing partner, Gary Silverstein, just posted a cool article on our website blog. Click at my website address below and go to our blog. It should be the top article.
I hope you find this helpful.

Thanks Dione, Ralph & Nathanael. Your article(s) were very helpful. I, like many, have seen these symbols, but didn't know much about them.
Thanks Barbara and Karen!
Thanks again to Barbara and Karen for another energizing session. Everyone I talked to had a great idea to run with after our group discussions.
Thanks Lu & Dione for adding more good resources into the mix.
Thanks to everyone for coming and participating and commenting.
I heard that several of you were making useful connections through the Forums. Way to Go!
