What a great way to start the week, and hang with the original Biznik creative force. I am curious to see who these 10 folks are.

Event description
Four years ago today, Lara and I got this crazy idea that business networking shouldn't suck. Our very first event was breakfast at Salmon Bay Cafe in Ballard, attended by a dozen of our sleep-deprived friends at 7 am.
Today Biznik has more than 10,000 members in Seattle (and virtually no breakfast events). But we're bringing breakfast back! For one day only. We're inviting as many of the original 12 members as we can who are still in Seattle, (which is all but 2 who have moved out of state), and we've got room for a few more, too.
Don't RSVP if you can't make it at this ridiculous hour on a Monday (holiday, no less) morning! Yeah, I know, this whole morning thing really sucks, but hey, we learned from our mistakes at least. You don't see us hosting any events this early any more, do you. So this is your chance to network the old fashioned way, for old time's sake.

So far we've got two of the original 12 - Marco Mazzoni (whom I go waaaaay back with) and Kate Basart (whom I used to work with at Sasquatch Books).
Leila counts double as being an original Biznik member - she was the very first Biznik member to pay for a membership (she simply gave us a check for $100 one day and said "I'd like to be the first paying member of this organization" before we even had a paid level).
This is going to be fun!

Not totally sure I am in town for the holiday weekend. If I am, for sure I will set a double alarm clock and get my sleepy self to the SBC. What a nice thing!

Although I am not one of the original 12 apostles (or apostates, depending on your view of Corporate America) I am, according to Dan, the self-styled and unofficial poet laurate of Biznik and therefore am, in true Biznik style, inviting myself.

Does that make you John the Biznik?

Odd to chose Memorial Day for a breakfast meeting, but fitting to memorialize the anniversary! I would LOVE to attend this event, but won't make it out of my tent at Fort Ebey State Park in time!
What are you tolerating? -

Yeah we figured stick with the real day just 'cause. Your camping trip sounds like a LOT more fun - enjoy!
-
Posted by Kelly Jean Davis, Seattle, Washington | Apr 09, 2009
Ha! Yes, I remember never making it to a breakfast networking gathering until you guys made it a more civilized lunch gathering. Have fun and happy anniversary!!!

Heh. I know I'm nowhere close to being in the original 100, but now you've got me curious....
Any chance I could find out my number? (big smile: :D )
Oh! And many happy returns!!!

Hi Rachel - you're #1335. So that puts you in the first 4.8 percent of all current users of the site. You're a pioneer, girl.
-
Posted by Rachel Whalley, Seattle, Washington | Apr 23, 2009
Wow. Higher number than I expected, but definitely nice to know I'm in the comparitively early adopter stage, still. :D
Thanks fer lettin me know!

Dan, you've started something.... I joined 2 weeks before Rachel... 1300 or so? (it is curious... ) and major congratulations! It seems fitting that SHINE woudl happen four years later to celebrate the launch.
-
Posted by Dan McComb, Seattle, Washington | May 02, 2009
Thanks Lori. You are member #1151. I think we'll have to reveal this number somewhere because I get asked this question a lot lately.
And yes, I'm thrilled that SHINE is happening within a few days of the anniversary. Like Seth Godin says, "It takes three years to be an overnight success." Give or take a year :-)

Hey Dan and Lara, would have loved to join you -- we am still fond of networking breakfasts. In fact, my bday is the same as Bizniks, although I must admit I've been around a bit longer. Heck, after 52 years I might even sleep in till, say, 7:05 am!
Have a lot of fun - looks like a great group!

I was member number 42.
If you go with the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy's rule for the number 42 - (that's that 42 is the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything)...
then I find my membership number a rather auspicious.
I am the reason for biznik life and everything. ha!
thanks Dan. I appreciate your this grand gesture - this biznik thing. It's been such a gift in my life - and a challenge on many many levels.
I'm looking forward to this breakfast. I shall likely sit quietly and glow with a grin as I watch others have great conversation and reflect on the last 3 years of my involvement with biznik.

Hey I'm not going to let you sit quietly - you will have to explain the ultimate question to the rest of us, enlightened one!

Congratulations on Four Fabulous Years!
We'll lift a glass to you on Orcas as Sara and I are planning a Biznik Happy Hour at the Green Leaf Cafe on the 25th.
Cheers! Gretchen

If this is a breakfast/lunch I believe that time would be PM as opposed to the scheduled midnight to 1:30 am. Picky Picky I'll have breakfast at midnite....usually up at 5am. What's time got to do with it? We've got work to do.

I am getting my butt out the door at 5:00 AM to drive a lovely, quiet drive to the cafe. It is so important to acknowledge the creation that is biznik--a creation which has changed my life and my business life for the better...no make that the best! ;-) cheers.
I might also have a tag along: biznik member & spousal unit Jimmy Mac, 'cause we want to dance at Folk life thereafter.
Is anyone else going to Folklife? We can make up a biznik-baranga-conga-marimba dance troupe.
love and blessings to all early risers!
168, won't be late. Elke

huh, now I see what putting the "#" before a sentence does...pretty groovy, if not a wee bit ostentatious. :)
Oh and PS: Dan, I remember stating in your "biznik reading"/aura portrait, , that success will be evident in year three...and beyond.
congrats.

We're all mad for doing this, you know.
I'm just realizing this Sunday afternoon.
And you, Dan, are quite mad for even creating this event... here's to showing I have integrity. When i rsvp, I show up.
That's just how I roll.
I even showed up for Dennis' thing today in Mukilteo. And I never schedule things on Sunday.
Mad, I tell you! I am mad for networking on Memorial day weekend.
see you at 7am tomorrow.

Color me Mad too! I just stumbled onto this while taking the attendance for today's Mukilteo event (which was a blast, right Sierra?).
Anyway, great idea, great timing - I'll be there, full or not.
-
Posted by Dan McComb, Seattle, Washington | May 25, 2009
Yeah Lara and I were completely mad 4 years ago to host the first event for this crazy thing at 7 am, too. See you crazy people tomorrow morning :-)

Happy Anniversary, Dan and Lara!
I'll dream best wishes and happy thoughts for many more successful Biznik years.
(Oh, that trick I got from Elke is just too fun, I'll try to only use it for very special occasions!)

Ha! - I learned something new too - with that # trick.
Thank you! You guys rock.
What a great turn out yesterday. Thank you for helping us celebrate our birthday.
Don't forget your assignment (if you choose to take it): What drew you to attend this 7am meeting and why do you use Biznik the way you do?
Four years into this, we're looking to freshen up the messaging around what Biznik is and why people use it. In my humble opinion there's no better people to ask than those who will show up for a 7am meeting on Memorial Day.
