Seattle Community

Event description

OK folks, we move to the next step: Let's start getting together to discuss what this Sustainability Pledge could really mean for Biznik. First, please check out the thread here.

Then, come to this event to help us parse the question of how to create a meaningful pledge with real metrics and incentives.

NB: This is a working discussion, not an introductory workshop. Please come prepared to actively contribute to this topic as we help build Biznik together. Needless to say, this is also an excellent networking opportunity for those working in the field of sustainability, as well.

BREAKING NEWS: We now have a Biznik Sustainable Business Contest in the works. Details will be discussed at this meeting.

If you can't make it, PLEASE post your thoughts to the existing forum thread, so we'll all have one online place to discuss this topic without scattering/losing any of the group wisdom here. This will surely be an ongoing process, so don't sweat it if you end up missing the first gathering about this!

thx! @brian

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend this event, but I'm really looking forward to hearing what you guys come up with. Biznik is totally on board with providing an opportunity for members who are operating sustainable businesses to be recognized for their efforts.

I won't be able to attend this event either, but want to express support for what you are doing--good luck on this first meeting.

One thing that I think would be worthwhile is perhaps for Biznik members to to recognized for carpooling together to events where/when possible. Any thoughts?

Unfortunately I'll be arriving late after a day on the water... maybe as late as 8pm or so.

Hope this works - however I'll have sustainability on the mind when I do arrive, and hopefully a bit of input from our friends the orcas~

Here is some light reading for those of you in the technology biz about an industry directive that aims towards reducing toxic footprint called ROHS. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restrictionof_HazardousSubstances_Directive)

And here are some steps the giants like Google and Intel are taking: (http://news.com.com/Google%2C+Intel+target+efficient+PC+power+supplies/2100-11392_3-6190576.html?tag=st.ref.goo)

Shoot, I'm not going to be able to attend... this could be a good opportunity for a joint Biznik-GreenDrinks event.

Ooooh, that is a great idea, Brian. I just met with the founder of Bean, another social network here in Seattle, and we're planning to do a joint Bean-Biznik happy hour in September. Anybody know the people at Green Drinks?

Man, I wish I could make this event. Sounds like it's going to be ongoing, so I will keep an eye out for upcoming get togethers.

Thanks for beginning this important venture!

I've met the folks at Greendrinks seattle, but don't know them well. They will be hosting another greendrinks event on August 14th, downtown. see: seattlegreendrinks.org.

Speaking of non-profits, I am also an admirer of freindsofseattle.org. They seem like a real get-it-done sort of group.

Thanks to everyone who attended, that was a great discussion. I'll try to get everything typed up by the end of the week and posted in the ongoing thread.
