Event description
I am introducing the Jelly concept here on biznik because bizniks are a people of connection and community who also want to get their work done. So, welcome to Jellies! But wait, what is this Jelly thing anyway...
When you get a handful of people in the same space and everyone is working on their own project, that's a Jelly. Jellies were started by some freelance developers who found that they enjoyed working around other people but not as employees of another entity.
As entrepreneurs and freelancers, we can spend a lot of time working in isolation. We might not miss office politics, but it's fun to have coworkers sometimes--people to be in community with while you are getting your own work done; People to share in some fun banter, grab a coffee break, go out to lunch, ask a quick question, etc.
Jellies can happen anywhere...a coffee shop, someone's living room...this one happens at Office Nomads on Capitol Hill. A great location for a Jelly because they've got everything we need, right there in the space: coffee, tea, a printer, internet access, and a really great crew of nomadic workers who are friendly and fun.
What to Bring:
We'll sit together at "the cafe" (just ask when you sign in at Office Nomads and Jacob or Susan will show you where to go). It's coworking casual attire or whatever you are wearing that day. We'll work in each other's presence and we'll have a chance to talk and get to know each other over lunch.
I'll be there from 10-2 but you can arrive anytime and stay as long as you want. Office Nomads offers a complimentary day for first timers so if you've never been, it's free for you!

Good idea...I don't have a laptop though, so I'm chained to my office at home.
As far as my non-computer projects, I doubt Office Nomads would be pleased at finding bits of glue, tape, paper, thread, fabric, plastic, wire, and glitter scattered around, so I confine this to my project room.
Good luck with this!

Wow! This is taking place at the fitness studio I work out of right next door. How convenient.

Great to see you all so interested about Jelly. It's a fun idea and I think we'll get a lot of work done in the company of one another.
Dina, sounds like you know how to make a mess. I love it. If you want to check with Office Nomads about how messy you can get in the space, you can contact them at (206) 779-9709 or susan@officenomads.com or jacob@officenomads.com. They are really approachable and maybe they'd have some ideas for you.
Tyler, yes, very convenient location. I work there off and on and love it. Glad you are joining us! It will be great to meet you as I've heard such glowing comments from John Hays, one of your clients.

Great idea!1
Darnit, I have to unRSVP. Sorry, something came up with my house move smack dab in the middle of that where I have to stay closer to Mosaic :), so I'll have to come for the next one (if you'll still have me!) but I also wanted to say how much I admire your putting this together, I would've KILLED for a jelly in all my 11 years of lonely daytimes as a freelancer in NYC!
Sooo happy to find you here, and hope to be able to join you next time (or perhaps hostess a future one if/when I figure out my permanent living situation - heh!) Thank you for the inspiration - it'll be perfect when it gives me no dang excuse not to write my business plan.
Okay sorry to ramble and gush so much :), I just wanted to unRSVP to allow someone else to take the last spot (out of my cold...dead...hands...kidding!) Have a wonderful time and I can't wait to read more about it!
Best, Michiko

Sandra, yes, catch a future Jelly!
Michiko, of course you can join us again! Thanks for the positive words and yes, please host a Jelly yourself! I'd love that! And you will read more about it because we are going to be in the news! See more in my next post...

Looking forward to seeing you all on soon!
Bring something to work on. There is a printer, internet access, kitchen with frig, coffee, tea, spring water, and pretty much whatever you need in the space, including couches for taking naps!
The idea is that we just work in the same area and enjoy each other's company. If we want to go to lunch together, great. If not, great. There are lots of spots around the Hill where we can go or you can just do your own thing.
And here's a surprise: Fox Q13 News is doing a story on us! This just happened so I wanted to give you some heads up. No need to do anything in particular. Just be there working and they will take some photos of us for a news story. They already interviewed Susan and Jacob on Friday. Crazy, huh?
It's gonna be fun and we are going to get a lot done too.
Looking forward to seeing you all!
Karrie

That was a lot of fun. I had a great time meeting new people and working productively, separately!
The concept is great!

Karrie, Cool to see that you hosted a Jelly. I'd love to talk to you about your experience as its related to a project I'm working on, so look for a call. If you do this again, you should post it on the Jelly wiki: http://wiki.workatjelly.com/
Cheers, Leif
