Debbie, Great choice! I chose this book for the Biznik book club last fall and sadly only two people showed up. We ended up talking about other biz stuff, rather than the book. I'd definately join your group for this event but am a vendor at a three day education conference that week and am presenting at the conference early on Friday a.m., so there's a good chance that I will be in bed by 7 p.m. on Thursday! Have a great event and I hope to attend your next book club offering!
Book Group: Read, Drink (coffee), and Be Merry
Hosted by Debbie Lacy in Seattle, Washington
When: Thursday, May 8 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Fee: Free
Event description
Looking for motivation to get caught up on some great books? Here's your chance -- interesting book discussion and quality networking!
May's Book: Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die by Chip Heath & Dan Heath
A little about the book, taken from Publishers Weekly:
- "Unabashedly inspired by Malcolm Gladwell's bestselling The Tipping Point, the brothers Heath (...) offer an entertaining, practical guide to effective communication. Drawing extensively on psychosocial studies on memory, emotion and motivation, their study is couched in terms of "stickiness"--that is, the art of making ideas unforgettable. (...) Throughout the book, sidebars show how bland messages can be made intriguing. Fun to read and solidly researched, this book deserves a wide readership." (Jan. 16)
I'm committing to running three monthly book group events, starting with this one in May. If the response is good, I'll keep it going at least through the fall. For those who want to get a jump start on the next two books, see details below. Dates and location for these will be posted later this month.
June: Attracting Perfect Customers: The Power of Strategic Synchronicity by Stacey Hall and Jan Brogniez
July: How to Succeed as a Small Business Owner...and Still Have a Life by Bill Collier
Who am I to lead a book group?
I am an avid reader and enjoy creating vibrant discussions that stay moving and on topic. In addition to facilitating over 100 group sessions, workshops and retreats, I've been part of a book group that will celebrate its 10th year (with all the same people!) this December.

Nancy, I'm sorry we'll miss you -- hope to see you later in the summer.
Tonya, I'd love to swap book ideas. I'm also toying with writing a follow-up "book review" article highlighting key discussion points from each event.

I think the followup book review would make the foundations of an excellent article, Debbie.

Awesome. I've been meaning to read this and now I'll get to read it AND talk about it. Brillant!

Tonya - keep me in mind for the Millcreek area book club. I would definitely be interested if I were free to make the gathering.

Debbie - I'm sorry to have to pull out but I find I'm double-booked on Thursday with something I can't get out of. But thanks so much for turning me on to Made to Stick. Great book!

No problem at all. Hope to see you at a future book group event, Patricia.
I had a couple other people who were interested in coming, but the event filled early. Now that a few have had to cancel, it's probably too late for others to join in (unless they're fast readers or were already reading the book). This is a good lesson for the future. I'll open it up to a few more slots than are ideal, anticipating that it's likely that some will need to cancel. I'm sure the event host veterans learned this strategy long ago!
