Seattle Community

Event description

Please be aware that in Laurelhurst Park, we are meeting by the NE side of the pond, on the Ankeny St. side. If you get lost my cell is 503-869-2660

At the first event, we discussed "What do I need to make my business explode in the next half of the year?" We pulled out our creative-mojo, crayons and pastels to illustrate on paper what that would look like.

We'll review what we declared as success and announce what strides we've made to reach it and continue to set new benchmarks before summer says goodbye!

This is a bring your own lunch kind of event, and we'll try to make a cohesive circle with chairs we bring or the picnic tables.

Come take part in building a local community of like-minded business indies, whose energy and group-think can empower us to do great things with our businesses, and for each other!

Please try to arrive by 11:00am so we can start and wrap up by 12:30pm, with plenty of networking and buddy-building.

PLEASE Note: Anyone can attend this event, if you missed the last one, you are more than welcome to come! As a prep, think about the next 6 months (now it's more like 5) and what you'd have to do to make your biz explode. Then, draw a picture of what that success would look like. Then bring it with you! We'd love to see what you come up with!

    Hey Christian

Good for you for jumping in and getting this scheduled. I am on vacation the week before but should be back in time to come. Looking forward to it!

Great! Have a great vacation! I need one of those - what store did you get yours at? (Hee-hee.)

Thanks for creating this event, Christian!

I missed the first event. Would I still be able to come to this one?

What could I prepare in advance that would help me to jump in and catch up? I understand there was a focus on goal setting for the next year. Anything else?

Kimberly - I just edited the event descrip. to include those that didn't make the first one, and what you might do to prep. for the next event. Thank you for pointing that out - everyone is welcome to come no matter what!

Hey thanks for adding that. Hopefully it will bring in others who might have missed the first one...the more the merrier...Right?

Haven't been here in a while - my iPhone has lulled me into a bad love affair - LOl!

Good to see people RSVPing! I have had a request to move the date to a day other than a Wednesday - Opinions?

Why are Wednesdays so darn popular?

  • Kaya Singer
Posted by Kaya Singer, Portland, Oregon | Jul 19, 2008

If you change the day someone else won't be able to come. It's the way it always works. We are all busy. As the host, you picked a day that works for you, so stick with it as there are nine people registered! Maybe whoever wants a different day can host the next one or change their schedule this once.

I know - I just thought I'd ask. Can't please everyone. The date stays. That's my final answer.

Hello everyone! Wow, the group is getting bigger! How exciting!

I'm really looking forward to meeting the new faces, and seeing the folks from the first group - funny how this is considered a "small town" and yet, we don't run into each other more often.

I'll be posting some fresh content in the Event Description soon, so keep an eye out.

This is definitely not a small town! This is the biggest city I've lived in and I only run into people in my own neighborhood!

Thanks for organizing this, Christian. I really enjoyed the last picnic and am looking forward to seeing and sharing with everyone again!

I've got this on my calendar, but I'm having serious sun issues -- I am dealing with pre-cancerous moles -- so if it's a wildly sunny day I might not make it. Better the truth than you thinking I'm not interested...Maybe more info than y'all want to hear, but it's maddening to live in Oregon and not be able to sit in the sun.

    THAT SAID --

This will be posted as a Biznik event shortly, so please mark your calendars for this one:

Liability & Taxes: Have You Reviewed Your Business Structure Lately?

    Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM 9900 SW Greenburg Road Suite# 150 Portland, OR 97223

This is ideal for newer business folks and a refresher course for the rest of us. Like I said, watch for it as an event, no RSVPs til then, I just want to get a jump on your calendars.

Susan - At the last event, we were in the shade the entire time - the spot we picked is under a very large tree(s) - so I hope that may help a bit. Just keep us informed.

Hi Christian - I was looking forward to coming, but I'm half-sorry to say I won't be able to make it. I say "half-sorry" because I'm snowed under with work, which is a good place to be ...

  • Christian Messer

Hey Benjamin - that's Great! I mean snowed with work is awesome - so congrats! There'll always be more events coming, so no worries.

Unfortunately, I'm teaching 10am to noon on Wednesday- so it's unlikely I'll be able to be there. I'm bummed, because I'd love to hang out with you all.

Enjoy! And if I can be there, I will.

    peace Mark

    Hey Christian,

I was really looking forward to supporting you in your event, but my workload is such that I am going to have to work through the day just to keep up.

I apologize for the short notice, I really thought I would see light at the end of the tunnel by now.

Noooooo! No Sparky? Now who am I going to roll my eyes at if it's horrible? Oh wait, it's not going to be horrible because it's filled with a bunch of people I really, really like. Still.

Okay. See most of y'all tomorrow. Warning: My drawing is in pen because: no crayons.

Hey Christian, At one point I thought you had posted your cell number just in case one was out wandering around the park and needed some guidance! Lauralhusrt is a big park, and I understand 39th, but North, South East and West don't always work well unless I can see Mt Hood or the River!!!! I'm directionally challenged. So a contact number would be great - thanks!

Argh, hate to be cancelling as well ... have an unhappy sore throat that's threatening laryngitis. Needs some attending to. Ohhhhh.

Sorry to miss this and seeing all my favorite Portlanders ... hope you're doing it (or something like it) again soon.

Have fun. My duck and I will miss you but will be there next time ...

Christian - Had really hoped that my schedule would fall into place at the last minute, allowing for me to escape to the park to join you all. Alas, I'm waiting for client edits on a project that needs to get to press ASAP. You and I MUST get together for coffee/lunch soon! - Jeff

The event was great! We had a lot of very good, pointed revelations, some great supporting, and many great suggestions for many of the attendees.

We've paired off and all received "Buddies" to communicate with and have that extra accountability to achieve our goals.

If you'll have me, I'll host the next - but I will leave it up if someone else wants to host the next event.

The consensus was: Let's continue this great event!

Christian, You did a marvelous job dahling!

I like the group a lot. I felt energized by hearing everyone speak - and we always get back what we put into anything. So I brought back energy and excitement to move forward and try new things.

The group it is a nice size with interesting business diversity as well as overlapping businesses. That allows for great ideas to come forth as well as new concepts to take with you and see how they might work in your own business.

I love the idea of this group, for when we help others we help ourselves as well. Because commerce is what keeps us all up and running and making a difference in our communities and ultimately our world.

The timing is perfect for me, spinning off this new business because it is both exciting and scary at the same time. Maybe I could use Emma's cave sometimes!!

Looking forward to our next meeting. I am here to help if you need anything. Please give me a call or email. Roberta

What a lovely way to spend lunch hour in the park. It was an energizing circle and you did an excellent job facilitating Christian. I look forward to the next one. Not sure how long we can count on the weather to meet in the park...

Kudos again, Christian. I love the coming together of our community and the spirit of generosity. It's such a nice break to meet in the park and share and get ideas and support. Yes, let's continue. I'm looking forward to learning more about what everyone does - I think there's a way to all link together and really become powerful - like the Power Rangers.
