Event description

Let's get together and talk about us - who are we? How do we market to us as a collective group?

We call ourselves solopreneurs, independent entrepreneurs, innerpreneurs, sustainable businesses, social change agents, distributors, consultants, greenies, and the list continues to fragment off into smaller and smaller groups.

Who are we as a unified group? Who are we as a community of consciously aware entrepreneurs who taking action to make a difference?

We are a movement. We are a powerful market force...not yet united by a common language.

A common bond unites us. We are creating a better world, a sustainable world, a healthier one. We are united by our values, our minds, and our goals - not by our labels, class type, or status.

So what is our common language? How do we define ourselves as a market segment? How do we write copy to connect with this audience?

Come join us. Let's have some fun sharing ideas and visions...and let's invent a language that reflects the core of who we really are.

Bring some finger food to share. Bring an open mind. Let's do business in a way that works - together. Lets figure out who we are and how we can rise up to create a more conscious future.

Hi, Joe, looking forward to seeing you. It will be a revolutionary discussion!

I am really thrilled that we are having this event at Office Nomads...a leading edge 'Co-Working' business! Ever heard of that? I hadn't. They are on the front end of an emerging community business trend. I think Jacob said that there are only 60 other businesses like this one in the world...but the idea is catching on! It is cool that they are trailblazing a new form of business collaboration in Seattle! Great venue!

Plus, it is a terrific time of the year to review who we as a group have been in the past, and who we can be in the future. It's fun to notice and honor the changes.

The truth is that as pathfinders we really are inventing a new world...and that means creating a new language and a new story of who we are. Let's make it good.

This sounds like such a great event - I'd love to come! Unfortunately, I'm going to be tied up with family/holiday stuff. I hope you host another in 2009!

    Best,

    Valerie

Sorry to miss you. You are one of the very people we are talking about here...and as an attorney that is awesome.

In 2009...if the desire is there, and it feels right, we will do it. I am travelling down from Bellingham for it, so we will see what the demand is.

    Hi, Everybody...

This is a reminder of the meeting on Tuesday at Office Nomads! With the holidays, I figure we all need the extra nudge to be sure we don't miss out!

Tara will be joining us on Speakerphone, so that is fun...and I am bringing down a couple of my colleagues from Bellingham.

Plus, we have a couple specific examples of things we can try our hand at writing to our target audience. You will get three things from this event:

    1) You will have fun meeting other creatives and masterminding together,

    2) You will directly experience how having the niche language makes a difference in your clarity of writing

    3) You will see how attending this meeting may make a difference for the future!

Come prepared to introduce yourself, give your elevator speech (and if you have something to promote)...say what inspired you to come, what you hope to learn...and we'll go from there!

    Jacob;

I'm looking forward to this session. Looks like it has tons of potential. I'd be mainly interested in developing some ideas on more B2B marketing. The target market for Lone Eagle is more small to med ad agencies, marketing firms, production companies, etc.

And Joy, it'll be nice to meet you. See you all Tuesday.

Jacob and Joy, I'd love to come to this event. I'll see if I can pull it off - lots on my plate on Tuesday. If not, maybe you'll do it again? Frith

  • Joy Gilfilen
Posted by Joy Gilfilen, Bellingham, Washington | Dec 29, 2008

Rick, I agree on the B2B topic...it is the industrious entrepreneurs who have the most capacity to take action on change. And, we are both the most creative, the most independent, and most difficult to team together - especially in synergy with the creative artistic communities and the civic organizations. That is precisely our challenge.

Finding some uniting and collaborative language is step one, then as we learn to team up using this language, then we willl become a huge force for change.

Frith, I hope you can come. We will find out at the event if there is demand for another one, or even for an on-going conversation about this. Joy

I look forward to meeting you all!

It's been awhile since I attended a Biznik event... I got very involved - obsessed, some might say - with political activism.

Now that some major goals have been accomplished, I can stop volunteering (so much) and turn my attention to my own business again and meet other creative pros, which I so enjoy doing.

Yes, Jean, please do bring your colleague. While Biznik events are primarily for Biznik members...guests are always welcomed so they can find out more about what Biznik is and how fun and productive it is to be affiliated with us.

Hi Joy, I was really looking forward to meeting you and attending this event, however, I find myself without my car tomorrow.

If anyone is attending from the Edmonds area and would like to carpool, please let me know...otherwise, best of luck and I hope you'll host this event in Seattle at a future date. Thank you, Kelly

To get the most out of tomorrow...

    1) Eating together always forms a bit of a bond...so if some of you want to bring some snacks or finger foods to share...awesome!

    2) Plan on doing your "snap" (your Elevator speech) when you introduce yourself. It should be a 'short' commercial about yourself - 5 to 15 seconds about who you are and what you have to offer, or are looking for.

    3) Relative to tonights topic, think about what your goals or desires are, and where you are blocked in achieving them. Where or how is the lack of a common language limiting your effectiveness or ability to move forward? Or, by reverse, how would a common language help you be more effective?

    4) Remember to look at the profiles of those attending for people you especially want to connect with. Then you will feel more at ease when meeting them in person!

Let's have fun tomorrow paving new trails! Joy

    See you then.

    Jacob and Joy,

What a fabulous event to host. A prior commitment will keep me away, but I appreciate the momentum you and the attendees will garner as you convene in community. Perhaps this will be worthy of a repeat.

I really want to thank all of you for the great turnout...and terrific, juicy conversation! Creativity is a fascinating thing, and uniting creatives will be nothing less than exciting! How fun will it get as we learn to become collaborative entrepreneurs!

I realized that you know how to herd cats? You put fish inside the gate...way at the back of the place you want them all to go, so all the cats have to run to get there. They will have a blast going there, and they run with their tails in the air happy as heck!

It is much like herding chickens. It is alot better to just go inside the henhouse, cluck a bunch, bang the pan, and sprinkle the food. They will rush to get through the door!

I wonder what there is to learn from this!

    Hi, folks,

I have written up a compendium of notes on this, and then a personal conclusion that I have drawn from the topic, plus from additional conversations I have had with some of you. I would love to share it with you, as an e-mail attachment. it is not ready to publish as an article yet...but if you want a copy, please e-mail me at gijoy@comcast.net and I will forward it to you.

Also, be watching for an announcement for Feb. 10 for me to host the next event. Jacob and I have been busy...and that is the next night that works! We have to limit attendance to 16 people...so if you want to attend, be prepared to RSVP right away. I will be posting it by tomorrow!

Hi, everybody...I submitted our next meeting to the company, so it is in my profile pending approval. I imagine you can go in and RSVP right away. Would love to see you all come...and hope the time works.

If any of you have a larger meeting space in the Seattle area that is free and allows us more space to expand, please let me know for future meetings. We would love to allow more people to come.

Jacob is allowing us the free space, and we need to work inside a conference room this time...for it is not winter holiday time. Please give him kudos, thank you's, and refer business his way for hosting this!

Hope you can make it...it will be a fun event.
