The Biznik Innovators Series connects independent business people with some of the most premier innovative thought leaders published today in a swank downtown venue (with complimentary wine!) When the authors visit Seattle, we find innovative ways to celebrate their books, while providing you with a unique networking opportunity.
The engaging Warren Etheredge, of The Warren Report, will lead an intimate and entertaining on-stage conversation with the author that takes the entire event up a notch.
In addition...
Before and after networking with the author and other guests in an intimate setting at the elegant Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle
Free-flowing award-winning wines from Erath Wineries
Savory nibbles AND in addition to the wine & appetizers, a copy of the book, signed for you by the author after the interview, is included in the ticket cost.
Several books have been written by “social media experts” trying to explain the secrets behind Twitter - the 140 character online service that allows users to share, discover and connect with anyone, anywhere in the world - and how anyone can use it to their advantage. Convincing companies to incorporate Twitter into their marketing strategies has become easier since competing companies have seen phenomenal results. However, according to Dom Sagolla, a co-creator of Twitter and author of the new book, 140 Characters: a Style Guide for the Short Form (Wiley 2009), “The constraint of 140 characters is an opportunity for creative self-expression of all kinds. With Twitter and the short form, we have inadvertently invented a new genre of literature.”
In 140 Characters, Dom shares the way to develop a personal voice and make the most of your messages. 140 Characters aims to do for Twitter and other short forms, such as text messaging, email, and status updates, what Strunk & White’s The Elements of Style did for good writing via lessons in grammar and composition.
In a world of three second attention spans, the short form is not just confined to Twitter, but also Facebook, LinkedIn, and text messaging. Most of the advice in 140 Characters is focused on helping the reader to find the right words.
Twitter co-creator Dom Sagolla covers all the basics of great short-form writing, in 140 Characters including the importance of communicating with simplicity, honesty, and humor. For marketers and business owners, social media is an increasingly important avenue for promoting a business-this is the first writing guide specifically dedicated to communicating with the succinctness and clarity that the Internet age demands.
The most extraordinary thing about 140 Characters is that it's more than a book about Twitter. 140 Characters is a concise field manual that will help you be more effective when communicating in small spaces. It's an actual style guide that
• Covers basic grammar rules for short-form writing
• The equivalent of Strunk and White’s Elements of Style for today’s social media-driven marketing messages
• Helps you develop your own unique short-form writing style
140 Characters is a much-needed guide to the kind of communication that can make or break a reputation online.
What others say about 140 Characters
"Inspired by new mediums of publishing, such as Twitter, this book provides a refreshing look at the breadth of linguistic techniques that shine with the advent of the modern short form." - Britt Selvitelle, Front End Engineering Lead, Twitter

Nov 18, 2009 Lara,
It looks like I'm going to miss another fantastic event since I'm hosting a Cashflow Game that night. Are the Biznik Innovators Series always on the 1st Tuesday of the month? If so I may need to switch one of my Cashflow Games to another day in order to attend some of these events.

Nov 18, 2009 It's a complete fluke that the first 4 events in the Biznik Innovators Series were on the first Tuesday of the month - even that they fall on Tuesdays. With one exception, the authors do not live here but were in town for other engagements and we were fortunate to get them during the short time they were passing through.
Our next author in the series, Dan Pink (Free Agent Nation, A Whole New Mind and Drive) is currently scheduled for the 2nd Tuesday, January 12 - however the venue may not be available that night, so we'll either have to change locations, or change nights. Stay tuned...

Dec 02, 2009 Went to the event last night and must say...Great venue, great snacks, great crowd, and most importantly, what a terrific speaker! Host Warren Etheredge did a fabulous job of keeping things moving and adding an extra dash of humor (always helpful for holding the attention of a room full of wine drinkers after work).
Thanks again for putting this on. I'll be sure to attend another one soon.
Best, Stacy

Dec 02, 2009 This was an excellent event ~ well worth the drive up from Portland.
I was really impressed at the kind of person Dom is, and how he felt responsible to see that what he helped create was used in a positive way.
It was also fascinating to get information about how the numbers for short form writing of 160 or 140 came about. For a nerd like me, I was in heaven!
Thanks so much for putting on this event.

Dec 02, 2009 A great event, Dom was both personally warm and enlightening. When it was my turn in the autograph line, he stunned me by asking me to talk about myself and made a real effort to connect.
Dom's Short and Sharp Thoughts really resonates as the style I want to attain.

Dec 02, 2009 Incredibly mind stimulating event! Dom Sagolla has made a deep impression of a true innovator with a multifaceted personality, besides just a charming character. Warren Etheredge shined as a skillful host equally fascinating, tactful, sharp interviewer. Great job Biznik for putting in together!

Dec 03, 2009 Which to mention?
Food, wine, nice hotel, autographed book? Wonderful.
Then there was a man who had the audience ohhhing and aaaahing. He alone was impressive. (the group did well with ooohs and aahhs too) The poster I picked up (left money on the table) says "The Warren Report" THINK. His questions and observations made me think and smile at the same time (#smink).
Then there was a man who said that he spent all of his time on the beach either watching or surfing the waves and thinking about what to tweet. He was inspirational, thought provoking, educational and..... more. Dom Sagolla was his name and 140 Characters is his game.
The problem? It doesn't add up. If I put on such an event with the likes of these with food, wine, autographed book in downtown Seattle hotel the price would not be close to $25 to $40.
AND I learned new tricks of the trade and met someone to network with.
I went over my 140 characters. (It's my dad's dna in me)
So.. in summary. Priceless.
Thank you.

Dec 03, 2009 I loved the Dom Sagolla event. Besides being wonderfully entertained by Warren's interactions with Dom, I discovered the motivation inside me to Twitter -- using my authentic voice :) Thanks Dom for your passion about this.
This series is awesome!

Dec 03, 2009 I, too, had a fantastic time.
Lara, I love these events. The moderator was great, the guest was great, the venue was great and the refreshments were great.
What else...oh yeah, the COMPANY was fabulous!
I walked in and immediately saw ten people I wanted to talk to.
What I loved most about this event was the that the quality of it attracted a very high quality group of attendees. I mean, I've never been to a "bad" Biznik event, but this was a room full of people who are serious entrepreneurs and who care deeply about being in business.
They're my peers, and it's worth the money just to be in their company.
Have I mentioned I love Biznik?
Keep up the awesome work!

Dec 04, 2009 Really loving the Biznik Innovator Series! I was struck by Dom's obvious intelligence and desire to do good in the world.
These events really bring out a great crowd, and I spent most of yesterday telling my friends who didn't go what they missed.
I'm really looking forward to meeting the next author you bring to town.
