Event description

How does walking and talking on the beach and trails at beautiful Golden Gardens sound? And then wood-fired pizza at [Veraci Pizza](in Ballard)?

We will meet at the south end of the only building near the beach; Some call it the Clubhouse, but on the official map they call it the Teen Center.

The idea is casual, easy, fun. Just show up and plan on having a good time. We'll walk and talk into the trails behind the parking lots, return to the beach and stroll oceanside.

For kicks, this time I am going to bring a hat full of questions and topics that you can draw before the walk to help in eliciting some off-the-beaten path conversation. I'll get creative, even wacky with these, and many of you will be relieved not to be repeating your damned elevator speech. (I loathe elevator speeches and may start a movement against them!) And if you don't want to draw a question, that works too.

Other things to bring:
bottle of water
camera
scarf/hat
good shoes for walking on beach and trails

I won't be the 561st person to tell you to "dress in layers." It's the Northwest and you live here, so you probably know what you are doing.

Directions by car
I-5 Northbound or Southbound:

  • Take exit to 85th St and head west.
  • Follow 85th West to 32nd Ave. NW
  • Take a left onto 32nd Ave. NW
  • Travel south until NW 54th St
  • Take a right onto NW 54th St
  • Follow NW 54th St which turns into Seaview Ave NW to the entrance of the park.
  • Drive to the last parking lot and park. Walk toward the South side of the building near the beach.

Plenty of parking in the lots.

Taking the bus? This makes it easy.

I'll be there no matter what the weather is, so don't chicken out if it rains or hails or snows, or if, god forbid, the sun comes out.

Looks like it will be a good day for it, but if the weather fails on us, I won't bail on you either! And I think I feel the same way towards elevator speeches ;)

I am a tentative participant until I hear from a client about a meeting. I haven't been to Golden Garden in years; so I really want to be there and will if I can.

Hey Karrie, this will be a blast. I can hang around and have lunch then head off to my next Biznik event "Biznik Loving the Recession: The Workshop" at 1pm at Greenlake Community Center, rm. 1.

Michael, glad to know we are in alignment on both chicken outs and elevator speeches. Looking forward to meeting you!

Years, John? We have to change that. It's so beautiful. If not this one, then definitely the next.

Nancy, will be great to finally meet you in the flesh. There is also a walk at Greenlake before that Loving the Recession event, just so you know. I am not hurt if you jump ship to that one. Either way, you'll be walkin and talkin.

Diane, welcome! I have some folks I want to introduce you to, now that I see what you do!

I have not put the word out to the Walk and Talk members yet, but I think this is going to be a well attended event once that happens. Who doesn't like the beach?

Bail out! Karrie, what are you thinking? I am so jazzed about the beach and the trails. I will have enough time to eat and make it to my next event. Can you recommend a place to eat somewhere between your event location and the Recession event? I don't get around that area very much. Thanks, ~Nancy

Some good spots for lunch in Ballard after the walk:

Thaiku = good Thai food and a building with a really cool story.

Great Harvest Bread = Good sandwiches, homemade soups, fresh breads, killer walnut brownies. They are almost all organic too. Love the family who owns this spot and I love all the people who work there--Several years ago, I met a young woman working there and I've been mentoring her ever since. I love this place. Good energy and healthful food. I feel really connected to this place so I'd say it's my first choice for lunch in Ballard.

They also do not sell meats with nitrates/nitrites in them. (Coastal Kitchen, on Old Ballard Ave. cannot make that claim). Good people, good organic food, and no colon cancer!

Veraci Pizza = excellent wood-fired pizza. Have not been to their new location but have enjoyed their pies from their traveling oven at the farmer's markets.

Depending on what I've got cookin that day, I may join you.

Yea! I still have not had a chance to send out to all the Walk and Talkers! Will try to get to that later today...

Welcome to everyone and I think this group will continue to grow. Should be a blast. I'll work up some fun questions for the hat when I get a chance.

Happy to see everyone who wants to walk and talk at the beach. Hey, I want to correct something I said above about Ballard restaurants. I did not mean to say "Coastal Kitchen" but rather, Other Coast Sandwiches. Coastal Kitchen is up here on Cap Hill!

How about anyone who wants to hang out afterwards, we head to Veraci Pizza?

I have been so swamped with work and projects that I STILL have not gotten the group email out! I'll try to do that tonight...
