Event description
Enter at the Fairhaven Village Green entrance (lower entrance)
Village Books has been the center of connectedness in Whatcom County for many years. Now they have added a hard to find item - an Espresso Book Machine which does on-demand printing for out-of-print books as well as for those of us self publishing.
This event is a perfect one for speakers, trainers, consultants, bloggers, and those who have a book in them, just waiting to get out.
This event is also perfect for graphic designers who can offer layout services to those of us creatively challenged.
The bookstore will be closed, so we will have a wine reception for Biznik members - talk about books, publishing, and of course spend some quality time networking and connecting with Biznik-preneurs.
Lori Richardson writes, speaks, and trains on revenue. Find her at www.scoremoresales.com

Dec 22, 2009 Cool! I've seen the machine but it will be great to hear more.
As Woody Allen said: "Most New Yorkers have half a mind to write a book and many of them do." I count myself among this potential author pool. Thanks for sponsoring this Lori!

Dec 23, 2009 Susan - great to have you there. I see it as a good excuse to have a social event - so to anyone looking at this and saying, "hmm.... I don't want to write a book now...." - I encourage you to come anyway. Village Books, after hours - think of the fun.

Dec 24, 2009 Yay! Not only are Lori's events always interesting, and fun, but I've also been wanting to see this machine. I'd love to offer up my services for proofing, editing, ghost-writing, and layout to authors...one of my favorite things I do!

Jan 03, 2010 I've got two books out (one, Bellingham Impressions, was a Village Books bestseller in 2009) and three more in the early stages. I'm not really looking at self-publishing, but the book business is changing rapidly and this is one option to keep in mind.

Jan 04, 2010 good news and not so: good: I've been offered a 2 week writing retreat in Santa Fe to finish my book...Yay! not so good: i have to cancel this event. I will however, try to find a way for my hubby, Jim Macartney, to attend.
Is there anyone driving up from Skagit Valley? He woudl need a ride from LaConner. (has epilepsy, and temporarily cannot drive) message him via biznik or call 360-708-4491. Thank You!
and have fun! Elke

Jan 04, 2010 oh , and by the way, husband Jim has finished a non-fiction book, and is looking at options...but one way to best use the machine is for workbooks...more professional look and could be a better price than at the copier, depending on how many pages in each workbook.
best to you all, Elke

Jan 08, 2010 I'm really excited about this prospect - it sounds like a cool machine! Can't wait to find out more. I might also be able to offer graphic design services, so I'd like to know more about how that might work as well. Just to forewarn, my RSVP is actually a maybe, although I'm going to try hard to be there. I have a new baby who's had the sniffles for a couple of days, so it's up to him and how he's doing by then!

Jan 08, 2010 Thanks, Joan, we are looking forward to seeing you. If you cannot make it, just "un-RSVP" or is that "re-RSVP" and that way we know for sure how many are coming - even if it is 30 minutes before - and so easy to do.

Jan 11, 2010 I'm excited to meet so many interesting people at one event. And seeing the Espresso Book Machine in action will be a treat. I think it makes Bellingham an even more progressive city for writers and designers. What a great option for beginning authors.

Jan 11, 2010 I have been looking forward to this! When I met with Chuck and Lindsey we discussed the opportunities to meet new Authors and Entrepreneurs alike. Once they saw samples of my work they thought not only could I do book design but marketing of the books as well. Exciting Possibilities for us all!

Jan 19, 2010 Great event. Thanks to Chuck & Dee for having us, and Lindsey for the informative discussion and demo. The Espresso machine isn't for the kinds of books I do, but I see lots of potential for many short-run printed projects.

Jan 19, 2010 Great event!! I've always thought how wonderful it would be to be able to reach a greater audience and share my passion about fitness and living a healthy lifestyle. Since the event I've been excited about the possiblities before me and my community. My husband was also encouraged and inspired to write the story he feels he was meant to write!
It was great meeting and seeing you all.

Jan 24, 2010 Love your comment, Ericka! - that is always my intention for Biznik events.
I'd be interested to know of the designers and others who want to work on books for the rest, how do we find out your project rate, or hourly rate, and turnaround times? Some folks want to get going on this. - Lori
