Event description

11/7/2008: JUST ADDED: Pizza and beverages! (Courtesy of Bellingham Costco and Lori Richardson)

The Biznik way of networking is a powerful combination of online social networking technology paired with face-to-face events. Learn from co-founders Lara Feltin and Dan McComb how to grow your business faster and become more profitable by using the tools at your disposal.

We'll walk you through the five main areas of the site, elaborate on the features as we designed them, and how to use them:

  • Your Profile: self promotion & visibility on the site
  • Events: hosting & attending
  • Membership: using the directory & your Biznik network
  • Biz Talk: online socializing & discussions
  • Articles & Tips: writing, rating & commenting

This workshop will be focused on questions YOU bring to the table - so come prepared to ask a lot of them.

BONUS:
Dan begins this workshop with a 20-minute introduction on Marketing Your Business Using Social Media, which provides a brief background on trends in technology and marketing that make social networking and Web 2.0 media such a powerful approach for those running a small business. This overview shares some great tools that are available to you, that can complement your Biznik networking.

What Bellingham members say about the event:

"Just the nuggets about SEO that Dan shared made the night worth the time spent--not to mention the specifics on Biznik networking. The SEO alone done by Biznik is incredible.  The business ideas shared were worth thousands and no one paid a dime. . ." -- David Wiggs

"Thanks to all of you for your gifts of time and effort that were given to all of us last evening. What a valuable investment it was for me! I enjoyed meeting many of you and look forward to our building a vibrant Biznik community in Bellingham!" -- Teresa Schmidt

"I walked out of the event dazzled by the crackling and popping of enthusiastic creative energy, plus three pages of notes on how to optimize my use of Biznik. I'm still integrating all of the ideas generated and buzzing around in my brain. It is downright exciting to feel a part of this community of folks! I send my thanks to all for making it a very energizing gathering." -- Jane Blinka

I did not think we would get Dan and Lara back to Bellingham so SOON. This is a "don't miss" event - to learn about social networking, and how doing business is changing. Biznik's focus on collaboration rather than competition is media-worthy.

Can't wait for this one again!

HI folks! I will be there with bells on. Say, how do I invite a non-biznik to this?

  • Scott Holen

While logged in, you will see at the top of the biznik page (two to the right from the Log Out link) the invite link. Click on it and follow the instructions........

We are SUPER-LUCKY to have Dan and Lara agree to come up again so soon.  They recognize that Bellingham is ON-FIRE.

Let's Rock the House and get out the word.  I challenge everyone to bring a least one new friend or colleague to this dynamite event.

If you attended the first "Networking the Biznik Way," you were blown away, weren't you?

Mark your calendars to come on down again because with all the new improvements Dan and Lara are rolling out, you ain't seen nothing, yet

We Are So Blessed to Hear Dan and Lara again. And Melody Hall is such a great Venue. Wish we had time for the 2nd Story Players to do some of their stand up comedy! Biznik is no joke though! get the word out and if you ever wanted to learn what this tool can do this would be the night!

Thanks Scott - I know you're a busy guy so I'm honored that you're making time to be here.

Jim, I've made quite a few updates to my presentation and I'll be covering lots of new territory about social media this time, so there will be plenty of new stuff for you. We'll also hit all the high points about how to use the site, and give everyone a behind-the-scenes look at Groups, which we're hoping to have released in beta by Thanksgiving. And, I'm really looking forward to meeting you all.

I noticed that the post for the Vancouver event sounded evolved from what has been presented in the past. I think we'll have this listed in the Bellingham Herald's "Whatcom Business Datebook" - we're looking to pack the house.

  • Tshombe Brown

Hi Lori - yes we're trying a slightly different spin on the Vancouver event - but it will cover same material in general as what we'll be covering at this workshop.

Wow - what a treasure! I just discovered this event and am grateful that Dan and Lara are returning to Bellingham so soon. I got so much out of the last event and immediately "upped" my membership from Free to "gold star" because of the value they offer. I'll be there and look forward to meeting NEW Bellingham Biznikers.

I'm back! I was supposed to be retreating to an island to write the rest of a book I'm working on, but circumstances AND providence AND synchronicity said: "hey! don't retreat, network!" I look forward to hearing about the evolution of a revolution called biznik.

I also have an idea for a social network for metphysical/spiritual types, so I would love to hear about your biznik "groups " plan D & L.

"I'll be there with bells on"...hmmm. where can I find some bells to wear? hugs from the Rev.

Hey guys and gals, I invited a few of my peeps who are not bizniks yet. I sent them invites to join up, but they might want to attend tonight first to see how sane we are.

I invited about five people, two said they will probably come.. Since the venue isn't full, is that ok?

Soooo looking forward to this, and bonus: I'll bake my famous (ex) soccer mom chocolate chip cookies for the occasion...mmmhmmm. Rev.Elke

Learn Something? Everyone I talked to afterwards said they learned something new! I think I will post a question under posts as it will help provide material for the next event we host.

My question here, though, is what did you learn tonight? And was there a "Wow" moment for you... to say "wow, I didn't know you could do THAT on biznik? Thanks Dan and Lara.... and Tshombe and Lori for hosting this great night in the Bellingham Community

  • Naomi Pollack
Posted by Naomi Pollack, Bellingham, Washington | Nov 25, 2008

What an amazing evening! I got home an immediately logged onto Biznik... a half hour went by before it even occurred to me to check my email! How's that for a "wow" moment? Seriously though, I think my wow moment was realizing what a win-win Biznik is for all of us. We get to take advantage of the awesome tools Dan and Lara have set up for us to network and promote our businesses, and by doing so we help Biznik, and each other, which helps us, and the circle continues. Brilliant!

  • Danna Overman

Two thumbs up! As a new member it was great to have Dan and Lara navigate us through the site and not only show us what is available but what we can look forward to.

Is there going to be a page that will show the future roll-outs? I know we can vote on features but I didn't see a place that would show us if they made the cut or not and if so, when they would be available. Thanks again!

  • Delaine Clizbe

I was so amazed! I was lead to the site by another member and immediately joined without really thinking about or checking into what the site has to offer. I didn't know it was so cool! I look forward to meeting and networking with other business owners in my community via this great tool!

I love how Dan and Lara's vision has enriched the lives of so many globally. Congratulations! We need creative, community minded people like these two to take us all to the next level of open hearts and open minds. When one of us wins, we all win! This is such an empowering concept and Dan and Lara's venture here has it all built right in. Our world is in good hands as the young people are leading the way in helping to make this world a better place. You two are truly an inspiration! I wish you huge success - bigger than LinkedIn! Bigger than Facebook! Biznik rules..... :-)

I was really excited about Biznik before, and now I am just fired up to make Mt Vernon be on the map. I so appreciated being educated in the power of this site to make new friends and work with new people. You both have such energy for your baby (biznik) and it comes across to everyone sitting in the audience. Thank you

A big thank you to Dan and Lara for coming back to the Bellingham. This was my second "Networking the Biznik Way" event and I was just as captivated as the first. I learned new information this time as there is so much I feel it is definitly worth going to this event more then once. I look forward to trying to make it down to Seattle a few times next year and maybe will even venture to Portland as I hear a rumor that there is a brand new Ambassador who is "lighting some fires (in a good way)" down in that area. Thank you Bliss

  • Sarah Benn

A big thanks to Lara and Dan for making the trip up to Bellingham. I am a relatively new member, and your roadtrip through the user interface and all of the possibilities each feature provided made me jump up and down! (ok, not literally.) I'm going to go through my notes and further explore all that Biznik has to offer.

    SEO ho!

  • Kelly Thompson Pederson
Posted by Kelly Thompson Pederson, Bellingham, Washington | Nov 25, 2008

I, too, was electrified by the possibilities of biznik. Lara and Dan's presentation was so full of information that I agree with Bliss that it's probably worth attending again. I think they're a great team, too. Good for you for creating something so great together!

I'd joined a couple of other social networking sites in the past few months and had already found that the others were left in the dust. That was before I knew half of what biznik could do!

The main thing that excites me, though, is the ability to connect with others in my own community! I've often thought of trying to find a way to join forces with other small local business people for various reasons. Holiday Parties are a great one I never even thought of! I'm thinking, too, of occasionally sharing large purchases of products that come much cheaper in bulk--like QuickBooks W-2 forms, for instance...

I'll be seeing you all around, I'm sure!

The attendance was terrific, the information delivered was exceptional. It is nice to have people really put the Web 2.0 Social Marketing phenomenon in perspective, so that business people can catch the wave, then ride it, and then master it.

Getting a better understanding of how Biznik helps us with SEO strategies is terrific, thanks!

  • Ritama Haaga
Posted by Ritama Haaga, Bellingham, Washington | Nov 26, 2008

Shortly after I joined, (a couple of months ago) I went to the Networking the Biznik Way in Everett and learned a lot about leveraging my Biznik profile to better advantage.

But it was good to go to again and get refreshed, take note of the new features and the ones I missed the first-go-round. And such a wonderful turn-out!

Great info & presentation by Dan & Lara - even tho' they have been doing these info evenings for awhile now, they are still fresh and compelling :-)

AND, soon I shall be starting my campaign for getting Bellingham on the main "List of Cities"!

Am thinking that if our profiles are sorted by participation/activity, shouldn't the List of Cities be too????

    Yeeeeeeeeah baby.

What a treat it was to see so many Bellingham entrepreneurs show up to learn, to network, and ultimately to be less isolated and less overwhelmed - the two major characteristics of entrepreneurs.

Please consider me a resource and let's keep talking about networking and connecting to the wonderful people and resources in our area.

  • Lara Feltin
Posted by Lara Feltin, Seattle, Washington | Nov 27, 2008

Thank you for the warm compliments, everyone. So wonderful to meet such a great group of people to share our vision with. We've heard the feedback and are taking notes. I'm looking forward to hearing more from the Bellingham community.

  • Dan McComb
Posted by Dan McComb, Seattle, Washington | Nov 27, 2008

Danna, to answer your question: we don't have a specific place inside the IdeaExchange for stating which ideas are "winners" and when they'll be implemented. That's a great idea. Currently, I just make comments about which ones we're working on, so look in the comment fields for now. I'll see if I can come up with a better way to present winning ideas. Maybe adding another tab would do the trick, called "Winning ideas" or something like that.

Ritama, I saw your vote for adding Bellingham to the city list. That idea is a winner! Look for it to appear in the list by the middle of next week - you've all earned it.

  • Ritama Haaga
Posted by Ritama Haaga, Bellingham, Washington | Nov 28, 2008

Hooray! This is super fantastic! Thank you for considering it and for making it happen so quickly - you are like lightening!

I didn't even get a chance to post it on the Idea Exchange - was going to do that today after the holiday hubbub. I'll have to think of something else to post there...Gee, do I win a T-shirt?!?!?

Bellingham has a great group, wonderful ambassadors, and I am happy to be a part of it.

    Thank you Dan!

It is truly great to be able to have access to the founders of this state of the art social networking website. I know it's by far the best one I've found since working with web 2.0 over the last two years. To get this kind of feedback is incredible! It's obvious based on the enthusiasm of this group how much it has affected how a lot of us are doing business now.
