I too got alot out of the person-to-person nature of the event. yes, the venue could be improved from a noise standpoint, but the food was stunning, and the company awesome!
Here is what I realized from your way of doing the contribution game...it allowed me a psychological way to get my needs met by writing what I wanted down. That allowed me then to quiet the chatter in my brain and put the 'neediness' on the shelf so to speak...for I knew that at another point i would be able to be fully focussed on.
It is like acknowledging that everyone is important, and assuring us all that we would have our needs attended to...and that opens up the listening and contribution process in an all new way..
Mostly, this allowed me to be able to fully focus on the other person 110% for the time we had to do it. This was incredible, for my ability to concentrate went up a bunch -which increased my resourcefulness and my ability to contribute to the other person.
I not only felt good for the value I received, but I felt like the other person was in a position to fully receive what I had to give, for they knew that my needs were checked at the door so to speak.
It was terrific as a process. I recommend you do it again for your people in Portland...and I will be adding the technique to my skill sets.
