Pre-Shine Interviewing Workshop!
Hosted by Laila Atallah, Stefani Quane & David Kuhns in Seattle, Washington
Type: Educational Workshop
When: Monday, May 4 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
850 views
Event description
Uncover the compelling story behind you and your business!
Armed with information and practice, feel more confident and relaxed at the May 6th Shine event – or whenever you shoot your video.
We’ll mostly be role playing at this informal event. You will get to be both the interviewer and interviewee. Whether you’re feeling totally unclear on your message or ready to roll, you can explore, craft, rehearse and refine your story. We’ll also give you a chance to write responses to specific questions, helping you go deeper with your message.
Most of us are shy in front of a camera, so don’t worry if you’re not a born film star. The atmosphere will be creative, supportive and light-hearted. Expect to:
• Introduce yourself and meet other Biznik stars.
• Learn what to expect in terms of logistics, timing and layout during the Shine event.
• Get feedback from others on where you really light up, and which parts of your story zing.
• Practice the “direct address” approach, where you’re looking straight into the camera lens.
• Learn by doing. Practice helps clarify your message.
• Feel more confident and relaxed on Shine night.
** Get another opportunity to practice at David Kuhn’s Monday morning events: http://biznik.com/events/pre-shine-face-the-camera-practice-workshop-beyond-the-elevator-pitch-get-comfortable-telling-your-story
Free parking can be found behind the building, on the South side.
**In addition to paper and pen, feel free to bring your “Flip” or other camcorder to get immediate feedback.
Looking forward to seeing you there!

Our pleasure, Denise! I originally liked the idea because it seemed like something I really needed.
Say it with me: "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me!" (SNL reference, for people who might be feeling a little nauseous.)

I can come late that night. Will that work for you?
-
Posted by Laila Atallah, Seattle, Washington | May 01, 2009
Absolutely, Barbara. We'd love to see you.

I like your "say it with me...above" Thanks! That pretty much hits the target... "OH yeah, I want to do this!" and then "Oh no what have I set myself up for now?" I'll try very hard to get to this helpful event. Thanks! Penny

No worries, Sylvia. Have you seen David's two pre-Shine workshops on Monday morning (a few hours before our evening workshop)?

Hi Laila. It's great that you and David and Stefani are hosting this event. Mind if I come and observe? Thanks. Cheers for now. David.

David: I haven't had a chance to check in with Stefani or David K. yet, but that would be fine by me. I'll shoot them an email to confirm. I think it'll be a high-energy evening similar to our experience at the Interviewing Volunteers training, so I don't imagine that having an observer would detract in any way (attendees, please let me know if you disagree). Plus, I think it'd be a great asset to have you, especially given your background as a documentary film maker!

Thanks Laila. I'll try and make it and just be a fly on the wall. Cheers for now. David.

Very camera shy but willing to put my big toe in, thanks to this pre-shine event. Just opening a mosaic studio in Wallingford and need to learn how to get the word out and be "seen". See you tonight, Claire

Kathleen: We're looking forward to having you. I know your previous experience with the FIRST pre-Shine event will be invaluable!
Claire: A mosaic studio?! What a wonderful thing. Kudos to you for stepping out, and stretching your comfort zone a bit. We're aiming for a fun, light-hearted vibe to support you as you explore this new experience.

I'll be down in that area before the event starts if any of you would like to meet for a drink & meet. A little cocktail never hurts, right? Smash Wine Bar & Bistro is at 1401 N 45th - easy walking distance and it has good reviews so hope to see some of you early.

Let me add my appreciation to Laila, Stephani and David -- for your well-organized and well thought-out presentation and workshop. It definitely got the juices flowing for me, and I am in process of fine-tuning. My intention is to be myself and have fun while giving a clear picture of what I offer.
I wish everyone else the same. Enjoy, and I hope to see you there!

This was a great event. I am much more aware of what will make a connection with the listener. I appreciated the various talents each of you brought to the session. Today, I'll go through my bag o' stories and see what brings up the most passion, enthusiasm and smiles. Thanks for the help. Darla

Great event! Thank you for the tips and opportunity to practice!
-
Posted by Stefani Quane, Seattle, Washington | May 05, 2009I'm so glad everyone benefited so much. The room was crisp with enthusiasm and a good mood. If people could walk into rooms and get down to business with such fun and wholeheartedness that we saw lat night, we'd be solving problems left and right. You entrepreneurs have the right stuff to make a large impact on the world. Let it Shine!!
-
Posted by Stefani Quane, Seattle, Washington | May 05, 2009I'm sorry my photo is so lame. It's on my to-do list to fix.

Huge thanks to Laila, Stephani and David for hosting this event. Even after being at it all day, you all brought an amazing amount of energy and focus to the group.
Hearing other entrepreneurs share what matters most and why they do what they do is powerful. I'm inspired to dig into this process and to share authentically. Not just for the video...this is everyday marketing at its best!

Thanks everybody for co-creating this amazing evening, and for your great feedback! The whole workshop surpassed my expectations. Each of you brought so much intelligence, heart and energy (witnessed in the high-decibel level) to the process. I left wanting more! Looking forward to seeing you at Shine. Let's strut our stuff!
-
Posted by Penny Wight, Lynnwood, Washington | May 06, 2009
I'd like them to film my strut instead of my face! The strut is much more comfortable! HA! See you there...maybe...amongst the other nearly 600 folks! Penny
PS did you take attendance yet?
-
Posted by Laila Atallah, Seattle, Washington | May 06, 2009
Penny: I've got the attendance recorded now.
Check out the videos already posted on Biznik's home page. One cool thing about getting older is that our faces take on more character.
