Event description

When it comes to retirement planning, there are always two factors to consider: investment strategies and tax planning. In this question and answer workshop, you’ll have an opportunity to get both perspectives at the same time. This event will be perfect if you don’t know what a Roth IRA is, why you might want one, or whether it’s something your retirement plan needs.

In a nutshell, Roth retirement accounts work in the opposite way of traditional IRA or 401k plans – contributions are not tax deductible, but distributions from the account are tax free. A conversion from a traditional IRA or 401k to a Roth account is considered taxable income now, but your distributions during your retirement years will be tax free. The decision to pay now or pay later has serious implications for your retirement strategy.

In this workshop, you’ll learn:

  • Why 2009’s down economy may make Roth conversions or contributions cheaper than usual
  • How 2010 is the only year for a special option – make a conversion in 2010 and you won’t pay tax on it until 2011 and 2012.
  • Who is eligible for contributions and rollovers under the current rules and under new rules taking effecting 2010.
  • How tax-free retirement savings can be part of a diversified investment strategy.

Be sure to bring your questions!
