Event description

Realistic Music Careers 101: This seminar is intended to provide essential information and concepts that should be absorbed by anyone considering a career in music to those already in the music business and other who have services for musicians in the music industry.

Presented from the point of view of an industry insider who has been exposed to the many practical considerations of a career in music, this seminar is the perfect complement to the theoretical and technical aspects of a traditional music education. Attendees will leave this seminar inspired, empowered, and with a clear understanding of the challenges in store, along with the facts they need to make an informed decision about their future.

Businesses that work with those in music and outside of music will also find different ways and avenues to market their services to the musicians and the music industry of today. From graphic designers to web designers, accountants to marketing groups and everywhere in between. These businesses will find different ways to network, promote and solicit services to artists.

This seminar covers:

• The practical realities of the music industry of today.

• Fundamental aspects of promotion, marketing and branding.

• Basic business concepts every musician should know to sustain a career.

• The broad spectrum of different career paths and potential revenue sources that many musicians - both new and old – may not be fully aware of.

• The damaging delusions of grandeur, lies, misconceptions, stereotypes and false expectations endemic to the music business.

• The numerous, varied and realistic avenues to long term, sustainable careers in the music industry.

• The different ways to approach musicians and the music market with the services of your business to help these artists move forward in the best ways possible.

This event is for musicians as well as entertainers, educators, writers, SEO pros, web designers, Graphic Designers, Accountants, Wellness Experts, Marketing and Promotional people, Film Makers/Video and Producers, Financial Planners and many others.

    hi loren,

thanks for 2day. it was fascinating.

i wanted to say one thing i think that was not addressed about careers in music and entertainment in general is the importance of having fans and an audience and in nurturing that relationship. word of mouth by fans of an aRtist i think is one of the most powerful ways to be promoted!

some good examples of successful musicians i admire are= jason webley, amanda palmer and ani difranco. all of them have worked their way up from busking on the street and have built a solid relationship with their fans and kept their integrity and artistic freedom etc.

thanks for your words of wisdom today, shannon http://www.shannonkringen.com

Thank you for a fun and informational event, Loren. Lots of good information for people wanting to make a career out of music.

I'd love to see a roundtable discussion on the new paths in the music industry, and include people from several areas of the music world, not just musicians. Seems like there is a lot of interest in music in the Biznik crowd... who knows... maybe you have a series of events on your hands! :-)

I will see what I can do. I have been approached to try a second event that I may try for in late September. I am also open to a round table but would like to team up with some others to make it happen.

    Thanks again for coming.
