Event description
WordPress is a fantastic software you can use for both your website and your blog. You have taken the time to set up your own site, or had someone do it for you. Now you have control over your own site.
But, when it came time to explore your dashboard, you wondered, "Where do I start?". WordPress is great, but it does have a learning curve.
In this two-hour workshop I will walk you through screen shots of every feature on your dashboard and what they do.
• Creating, editing posts and pages.
• Working with the themes, widgets and plugins.
• Adding and editing photos and video.
• And from top to bottom, we will visit it all.
Be sure you get here on time. We have a lot to cover!

Hey Bob,
Thanks for putting on this workshop. Two questions for you:
1) Will we be discussing ways we can optimize WordPress for search?
2) Will we be discussing ways we can customize the look of a WordPress site beyond our own specific combination of template looks? i.e. If I'm a competent graphic designer, will we discuss how to incorporate our own designs into the WordPress framework?
Thanks, and looking forward to next Monday.

Hey Jeremy, thanks for the questions.
This is really more of a breakdown of all the different settings and functions you have on your WordPress dashboard. And since the speed of the internet connects there can vary, I am working on screenshots rather than live on the site - that way we have no lull times in saving or opening new pages.
To answer your questions directly:
We will touch on some basic SEO ideas that WordPress easily adapts to.
As far as customization, again, we'll touch on some things lightly, but that's another whole animal. I do talk a bit more about that in my other workshop when I go through "themes". But to really get into it, one would need a class on CSS and html. There are themes that are more "customizable" without knowing CSS and html. And remind me and I'll mention those.
thanks and looking forward to meeting you

oh, I see, its an upgrade thing....

No, it's not an upgrade. We will be going through the current WordPress version, 2.8.5. I had mentioned 2.9 and if I have any info on that release I will share it at the workshop.

Any chance this may be presented somewhere a bit further south?? I am desparate, but North Seattle is pretty difficult to carve time out for.
Thanks!!

Great session yesterday Bob, thanks so much! Someone asked about good CSS books. While there are many targeted to designers using html I suspect this online guide will be more than adequate for most WordPress user's needs: http://www.quackit.com/css/
Looking forward to your Plug-ins, Themes & Widgets session in January.
Thanks again!

I am with Arden. Great information patiently delivered in such a friendly informative manner. Bob, I am waiting for the book. I hope you put out a manual or ebook. I am sure we would all buy it and the audience would be very wide. Please give it some consideration.
