Event description

Calling all tree hugging biznik bookworms! Let's explore and discuss environmental, ecological and sustainable ideas through our favorite green books.

We'll also talk about how it all affects us as business people and entrepreneurs.

In this first meeting of what I hope will become a regular event, I would like to ask everyone to bring "green" books they want to recommend or show off.

Our definition of green is going to be very loose here, and can range from a green how-to guide, through a polemic about the global warming crisis and to an inspirational work of fiction that touched you in a way that relates to the topics under discussion.

We'll do our round of intros and then let each biznik talk a little bit about the book they brought and how it affected their lives, thinking and businesses. We'll then choose a book for us all to read in a follow up meeting and then just stay around to chat some more.

The venue is a great neighborhood non-profit coffeehouse, and music on Wednesdays starts at 8PM.

Great idea, Eylon! Wish I could make it, but I'll be out of town until the 11th.

Hi Annika. There will be a next one so I really hope you will be able to make it then.

Sounds really good--I work until 7:30 so I can't make it. I'm interested because I'm thinking about re-focusing my entire psych practice toward Ecopsychology and writing--so it sounds like your book group would be perfect. (Would be nice if you could have one around 2 or 3 in the afternoonat Hot Wire Shoreline! Maybe I'll have to put one together sometime).

@Laurel - noted. I decided on 6PM as many people will be off work by then. But maybe a late lunch bookclub can work for some people. I'll ask :)

@Richard - I'm glad you'll be joining us, and look forward to see you again. I hope we'll get to speak more this time.

@Elyon--Yeah, I know, I've got strange and unpredictable hours. There's a chance I might be able to get free at 6, but I'd be there late--so it's best not to count on me--will make it 6:30 if I can!

Sorry can't make this one. Would like a lunch-hour group in downtown Seattle.

I do have a book list to contribute. Please take a look at my blog page: http://sections.whattheythink.com/environment/reading-list

I edit this site for sustainable graphic arts businesses.

I'm intrigued... but already committed this Wednesday. I like the location, though, and the idea, so if I can make the next one, I will.

I can make this. I want to bring "the world without us", but I could also bring "High tide in Tuscon" (Kingsolver).

@Victoria - welcome. Sounds like great suggestions. Feel free to bring whichever books inspire/d you with regards to the environment in your life and work.

I look forward to hearing your take on these ones.

The book club meeting was very cool - sparked some ideas for me, and gave me some direction on books to read! Thanks, Eylon, for starting this -- looking forward to the next one.

Thanks to everyone who showed up!

It was exactly what I had in mind - good books, ideas, people and conversation.

    See you again next month.
