Event description

Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is extended! The tulip fields of the Skagit Valley (pronounced Ska-jit) should be at their peak this week. Join other bizniks at a family gourmet grocery and deli for networking and munchies, then let's caravan and visit the tulip fields, a couple of "art barns", and even a hard cider/wine tasting at another family business: Red Barn Cider and Winery.

schedule and requests:

11:00 AM: We'll meet at THE networking community hot spot, The Rexville Grocery for their world famous sandwiches, salads, home-roasted coffee, and good cheer! You can even fill up your car with good gas or bio-diesel.

special requests:

Save gas! Carpool with a biznik buddy or two to the Rexville, because we're going to car caravan from there to the tulip fields and the rest of the tour.

Order lunch in advance : To save time for networking, you can order your lunch in advance: here's how:

  1. Go to http://www.rexvillegrocery.com, click on Deli, and peruse the menu.
  2. By Monday the 20th, biznik-message me with your order.
  3. Show up, pick up your order with your name on it, and meet and eat in the cafe! You can pay for your order at any time.

12 noon: Follow your tulip tour guide (that would be me) to the Tulip fields, special art displays, and wine/cider tastings. NOTE: Bring extra cash, some of the fields might have an admission charge/parking fee (usually $2-$4); the art barns and tasting rooms are free.

4:00 : We'll end up back at the Rexville Grocery. Stay for more socializing and happy hour if you like, or go home happy, inspired and with new business buddies.

"Between all wrong-doing and right-doing, there is a field. I'll meet you there." Rumi

We are meeting at the Rexville grocer @ 11:00 Jeffrey, but if you want to have coffee or breakfast at the Calico earlier that morning, I am always up for it, 'cause it is close to my downtown office....let me know! They open @ 7:30, I believe.

Anyone: if you want to stay the night, there are some great places that might not be booked on a Wednesday evening. Tag me up for referrals!

    Suggested dress code:

The fields are often muddy, so come spiffed up if you want, but wear layers and mud boots!

Really, trust me ladies & gents, high heels are not a good idea.

More than likely, I'll be wearing my trusty rainboots...

    muddily yours, Elke

Elke... Although this event may not seem like a business related one, I love that you are creating an opportunity to mix a little mid-week relaxation and spiritual rejuvenation with some business networking at the same time.

I frequently like to pose the question to entrepreneurial types - What is your definition of success?

One of my favorite answers is: "Being able to do what I want whenever I want".

Truly successful people who have discovered what is most important to them in their life will be well-served to take a mid-week break to "smell the tulips", so to speak.

I don't think tulips are as aromatic as roses, but what the heck, just do it. I'm confidant that the reward will be well-worth it.

    ...Howard

    Thanks Howard!

To all entrepreneurs.... ON this tour we will be visiting with entrepreneurs all over the place: from the Dutch/American families who own the fields, to the guy who got into the hard apple cider business a few years ago, and who's Red Barn cider is now successfully distributed all over the place.

Then there's the deli we'll initially meet at: The Rexville Grocery is a mom and pop enterprise, and a real community center, created from a dump of a place...it's now blooming with goodwill and goodies. The art barns are filled with art from entrepreneurial artists and craftspeople and chocolate makers, and bakers, etc, etc... This valley is filled with mostly small businesses, which should inspire us all!

That's why I wanted to post this in the Entrepreneurial junkies group.

My definition of success includes time to go on an "artist date" now and again, with time to refresh, to reconsider, to re-create.

And bonus: those tulips do indeed smell great!

    tulip cheer, Elke

Fun, fun, fun tiptoeing through the tulips with the effervescent Elke. Anyone want to carpool? Stop and smell the ....tulips. The way the day is laid out gives us a chance to eat, chat, walk and relax in a gorgeous setting.

This just in.... At the Tulip Town fields and garden displays, there is a special garden in its third year of incarnation: The World Peace garden was put together by the DeGoede family as part of a network of tulip gardens that encircle the globe. A couple of dozen flags from different countries fly in the homemade garden, and now there is an addition: a steel sculpture of a globe, made from recycled scrap metal, created by Mt. Vernon high school students.

On this tour, we'll pause for a moment of peace. This garden represents the spirit of sustainable entrepreneurship: giving back to the world in a way that builds community; both local and world wide!

Join me for this special tour, and tell your friends!

How fun to have an entrepreneurial wife, Sharon Howell! Everyone could use a wife now and again...even this wife! Are you up for consulting? :)

Everyone: want to bring a spouse, partner, biz colleague or friend? Great! Just let me know, please. Maybe they will love this so much they'll sign up for biznik!

Reminders: please go to the Rexville grocery page, and select a lunch item and let me know what you've selected. And remember to carpool if you can!

This should be fun. Elke says you can do it all for twenty dollars for the day plus whatever else you want. That will cover lunch at the RExville, getting in to the good fields, wine and cider sampling and all the fresh air and sunshine you can breathe in.

Elke knows all the vendors and has stories about each place. She is a delight to travel with. Let's have fun! Play is essential.

Wow! Our kind of perfect weather(a mix of clouds and sunshine). Elke was in perfection as a researcher, guide, facilitator and all around hand-holder!(the exceptional leader!) The food....ahh..and elke"s choc. chip cookies...even those had a community story! The tulips made their seasonal debut just for us. Lastly, the photo ops. never ended! Count me in for future Elke-led events. I'm gifting several of my prof. photos for this cause...Jeffry
