Event description
Your speaking voice is one of your most valuable and essential marketing tools. It expresses and articulates your thoughts, your emotions, your needs, your desires, your dreams. Like your fingerprint, your voice identifies and expresses your uniquness to others. We spend years investing our time and money educating ourselves, learning our craft, learning about business plans, marketing, networking; yet we often give little thought to our voice and the role it plays in the success of those other components. The placement, pitch, cadence and rhythm of our voice can be a powerful invitation to listen to what we have to say, turn people off so that our offerings are dismissed, or even put them to sleep. In this June 14th Sunday's New York Times, there is an article about Mary McAleese, the president of Ireland who was the commencement speaker at Mount Holyoke College. She says that when she started Law School, and I quote, "our first textbook was called 'Learning the Law' by a very eminent jurist , Prof. Glanville Willaims. In a chapter ominously entitled "Women," he stated his views that law school was no place for women, and that our voices were too weak to be heard in a courtroom." What Prof. William didn't know is that the same thing can be said about men's voices. We as humans all have a voice. Join me in this workshop and learn what your voice is communicating about you to the world. Learn what the tools are that support the voice, how to connect with and access those tools, which by the way, you already own. Learn how to hone those tools, and discover how to support your voice efficiently and optimally. Remember that in life you don't get what you want. You get what you negotiate and to negotiate successfully you need your voice.

Dear Banu:
I think it's wonderful that you will be at work! Think of the many people who wish they were at work. But we will miss you. I look forward to meeting you and becoming acquainted with your voice. Thank you for your kind response. It is always lovely to know that there are those who would like to come.

Dear Karrie:
I would love to have you be a part of this event. However, you will be where you need to and are supposed to be. It means a great deal to me that you would love to come. As I said to Banu, it is lovely to know that there are those who would like to come, even if they are unable.

Oh no, Awilda! I just realized I tried to double-book myself. I'm disappointed that I cannot be in two places at once. Will you be offering this workshop again?
-
Posted by Awilda Verdejo, Seattle, Washington | Jun 23, 2009
I will teach it again, if only just for you. Don't worry, you are going to be where you are supposed to be. Everything is exactly the way it is supposed to be. I will savor your presence even if you are not able to be there in person. Just knowing that you would love to be there feeds me. Thank you Katie.

I was looking forward to this event, but my schedule is getting tight around that time, so I thought I'd free up a spot for someone else who knows they can make it...Hopefully you'll offer it again and I'll be able to get in then!

I completely understand. Thank you so much for freeing up the spot. That is so considerate of you. I hope to do this again.

Dear Everyone:
As you can see there are those who would love to be here tomorrow. I am honored and thank those of you who signed up and are on board. However, if you find that for some reason your schedule changes, please, please cancel so that someone else may have your spot.
Thank you for your generosity of time and interest in my first Biznik event.
See you all tomorrow.

Awilda, You are truly thoughtful to eliminate introductions in favor of spending the time on voice content! That seems like a very good trade-off to me, as we Biznikkers can find out all about each other on our online profiles. Using that time for substantive information seems very wise-- my hope is that the practice will catch on in other Biznik events:-) Thank you for starting the trend. And-- so as not to take up class time with adoration-- let me say right here that your voice on the demo is utterly ethereal!

Dear Shannon:
I would love to have you be a part of the next one. I will do another one and I will certainly give you a heads up when I have a date.
Thank you for letting me know you hope to attend. Send me good thoughts for my first Biznik event. I look forward to getting to know your voice.

What a great event. I had no idea what to expect and I'm glad because I learned a lot and was really open to what Awilda had to say. I work with energy and businesses and Awilda talked about very similar things that I address with clients who want to be more in alignment. Awesome complementary learning! Great job, Awilda. And thanks for starting and stopping on time...that's really helpful.

This was more than a workshop/Talk. This was an experience. Thank you to everyone there for playing and ''showing up". I really liked sharing about ourselves and letting the profile speak to the details! Awilda, thank you!

Thank you Becca and Karen. We are all speaking the same truth - just coming from our own particular experience. The beauty of Biznik is that your profile is there for everyone to read, giving us time when we congregate to really get down to the nitty gritty. Karen, your compliment left me breathless, and for someone whose life is about breathing, that's saying something. Thank you both for gifting me with such richness and abundance.

It was really quite an experience to be there, today. Awilda, you are such a powerful and insightful teacher. I came away believing that everone would benefit from at least one session with you! To anyone "on the fence", hop off it and go to the next one. It is more than well worth your time.
Thank you Awilda.

Wow! That was amazing. I learned so much today. It made me think just how much our voice can reveal, what kind of impact it can have, and to really take charge in the way one speaks. And Awilda, you are an amazing person. In listening to your voice, I heard compassion, insight, joy, power, fun, caring, knowledge, empathy and the list goes on. I enjoyed how you weaved in your life experiences too. I am back to Wow! Thank you!

Dear Dana:
And WOW right back to you. Your honesty in sharing yourself to openly was wonderful. I would love to work with you one on one, even for just one hour to show you some things you can do to really make you rock. You are very powerful and when you allow tyour power to and don't lock it in your body, your work in the world will be amazing.

Awilda,
I think I sent mu comments directly to you instead of using this space.
This program was illuminating. Listening to what others had to say and hearing your assessment and advice gave me food for thought and growth. It was an absolutely terrific event If the rating only goes to 10 it was a 10 PLUS.
Thank you for your insights and time.

Thanks Awilda,
I got a bit turned around, but when I finally ended up on your block I knew I was meant to me there.
Thanks for your warm and amazingly insightful thoughts. As a new entrepreneur it was also very reassuring to hear that others share the same struggles as I am dealing with and I learned so much by listening to your assessments of each attendee.

Dear Julie:
Congratulations on your enrollment! It will give you great freedom. Thank you so much for being here, for persevering until you found me. It can be tricky finding me. You were meant to be here. Welcome to the world of entrepreneurship. It's quite a ride, but really wonderfully rewarding. I was delighted to get to know a bit about you.

Awilda,
Sorry I wasn't able to post a comment right after your event, but I did want to let you know what an amazing event it was.
I do believe this was one of those situations where time expands! It did not feel rushed and your assessments of us were focused and informative.
You have such a way with people, what a joy to meet you.
I look forward to hearing about your workshops and other events you offer.
Thanks again for your hospitality and generosity.

For those that were interested in seeing the video of the elephant reunion I mentioned at the beginning of the workshop, here is a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28E2EKBlr0k
It is a different video than the one I was remembering but I think it is the same two elephants that are being filmed and commented on. Wait until the last few seconds. There is a shot that is really precious!
