Event description

In this WordPress workshop, we focus on themes, widgets and plugins. With literally thousands of them out there, how do you choose and what should you look for?

Papa Bear: Themes are the backbone of your WordPress site. We'll look at free vs. premium themes and the differences—pros and cons. We'll explore a few themes and go through the available options. Finally, we look at how to choose a theme to best fit your needs.

Mama Bear: Plugins can give your site or blog that extra push. Most of them run in the background and add functionality and speed to your site. We'll look at the must-haves and the caution you need to take when using them.

Baby Bear: Widgets can be practical, fun, or both. A widget can allow visitors to sign up for you enewsletter—or list the top ten songs at iTunes. We'll explore how widgets work and you'll get a few tips and tricks.

You'll walk away with a better understanding of the power of these WordPress elements so you make better decisions and have more control over your site.

The workshop goes from noon to 2:00 and I have secured the room until 2:30 for additional networking time!

Bob Dunn is co-owner of Cat's Eye Marketing and a WordPress addict. He uses his experience in website development, design and marketing to create dynamic WordPress blogs and websites. Bob administers the group WordPress Chatter and teaches WordPress and blogging workshops.

How Exciting! It sure is scarry being in the forest them bears. Learning more about them and their behavior should take some of the fear away. Thanks Bob.

~ Terra, it's been awhile. It will be great to see you again.

Oh phew, one in Seattle! And far enough ahead to be able to book around; thanks for coming North Bob. See you then!

Hey Nancy, thanks for running with that analogy. I love it!

And Connie, glad you can make it. To follow Nancy's thoughts, yes, I am leaving one forest in the South Sound, only to bring another to metro Seattle.

Bob this sounds like fun. Shall I bring my own breadcrumbs to leave a trail home?

Hi Susan, the fairy tale analogy continues! Too bad you can't join us, maybe someday we'll make it back up north to do an event.

Now your talking Bob. We have all of us living right in the middle between Seattle and Bellingham.

We either drive an hour to Seattle/Bellevue or an hour to Belllingham. Having an event around the Everett - Arlington area would make the drive easier for us North people.

I am in the process of building a Biznik Community in the Snohomish County area and would love for you to come do an event or two further North.

In fact, when you decide to come this direction for an event let me know. I'd love to co-host it with you, post it under the N SnoCo Business Community Connections group (open to everyone), and I'll find a venue.

Very cool, what a great event! I helped a client start a blog last night but warned her, "I can only get you so far... (blog coaching for dummies)" I'll be there and I'm sending this to her, too!

I'm confused though, weren't Themes, Plug-ins and Widgets the the three little pigs!?

Bears & Pigs & Widgets, oh my! I'm the client Kate helped get started with a new blog so this event is good timing for more training. I'll be there.

Hey Lynn, glad to see you coming, it's been awhile! And thanks so much for the kind words!

Kate, will be wonderful to see you as well, and glad this came at a good time for Nancy, who I am looking forward to meeting.

And your right, heck the analogies we could use. Three Bears, Three Little Pigs, heck the 3 Stooges – okay, that probably won't work, but I do see Curly as a Widget, an odd and crazy widget.

Wow! I always feel that a presentation is well done when I can come away with one nugget of information that I can implement right away into my business. But to come away with three is just downright awesome. Then to top that off, I re-connected with Howard and meet Richard. Overall, a ten plus event. Thank you, Bob, for one great presentation. Betsy

What a fantastic presentation! I came away with just the information I was hoping to receive! very timely because i am just in the beginning stages of wanting to aswith to a word press website and this presentation not only fgave me the information I needed to make the decision final and to feel I can at least have a good starting point! Thank you so much! Debra

Thanks for the great info, Bob. I wasn't sure what to expect, since I've just gotten started with WP within the past 2 months. Your info was both a good review and introduction to some new and useful avenues to explore. So much (more) to do, so little time. . .
