Event description
In this WordPress workshop, we focus on themes, widgets and plugins. With literally thousands of them out there, how do you choose and what should you look for?
Papa Bear: Themes are the backbone of your WordPress site. We'll look at free vs. premium themes and the differences—pros and cons. We'll explore a few themes and go through the available options. Finally, we look at how to choose a theme to best fit your needs.
Mama Bear: Plugins can give your site or blog that extra push. Most of them run in the background and add functionality and speed to your site. We'll look at the must-haves and the caution you need to take when using them.
Baby Bear: Widgets can be practical, fun, or both. A widget can allow visitors to sign up for you enewsletter—or list the top ten songs at iTunes. We'll explore how widgets work and you'll get a few tips and tricks.
You'll walk away with a better understanding of the power of these WordPress elements so you make better decisions and have more control over your site.
Note that this is a free workshop, but the Mosaic survives on donations, so please consider dropping an extra buck or two in the donation box. Thanks!
If you missed this one, you can signup for the WordPress and the 3 Bears on Feb. 17.

Dec 15, 2009 Hey Beverly, yeah, I usually send out an email about a week before, and remind people. A few slots might open then. Also, I'm doing this same one on Feb. 17. Hope to see you at one or the other.
thanks, bob

Jan 21, 2010 I attended Bob's 3 Bears workshop and am glad I did! He is very thorough and a solid presenter, and his passion for what he is doing is infectious. Plus, the venue was very comfortable, casual and conducive to learning. Lots of great interaction among participants, as well.
I look forward to his next WP session on Jan. 25th!

Jan 22, 2010 What a great class! Amazing quality presentation. Tons of info. Very educational. Anyone who is serious about getting a Wordpress page started - must attend! I just subscribed to the blog and read post called "Ending the Confusion: WordPress.com or WordPress.org?" Everyone’s “must read” about the subject. Here is a link to subscribe to the blog http://catseyemarketing.com/ Thank you Bob for giving so much info, you are true enthusiast!

Jan 22, 2010 I agree with Marika, Bob is a great teacher/trainer. He patiently explains everything and even when his competition is in the room, he courtesly answers the questions they know nothing about. Bob knows wordpress inside and out. He shares his knowledge and he makes it very real.

Jan 22, 2010 Thanks for the great class, Bob. Lots of good tips, and I appreciate that you are explaining lots - helpful for getting quickly acquianted with how Wordpress works, and how to think about using the program. Will definitely be at more of your classes.
And thanks for all the fun graphics!

Posted by Maria Marsala, Seattle, Washington |Jan 22, 2010 I thoroughly enjoyed your class. Great content I reviewed right away. Timely as I was just looking at programs like themeis
Someone asked about calendars. I don't know one for Wordpress "per se". I would think that someone can use the text editor to put the code on a page of their blog for the one I recommend.
The free version, which I use, allows my clients and prospects to schedule their own sessions; AND I can also schedule them. My assistant can get into it, too.
The paid version of course has more perks.

The program I use is free and my (affiliate) link is http://www.lattiss.com/?promo=C906

Jan 23, 2010 Thanks for your class - taking 'part 2' this Monday. Coming from the legacy path of traditional web & video design, I am thrilled with the freedom that WP opens up to a designer, rather than bogging me down with having to learn yet more coding, or hiring it out. The possibilities unfold!
A question about a plug-in or widget for a WP site to create a section that is 'members' only, but not the whole site. A place for documents or member-only info, while keeping the main portion of the site public. THX!

Jan 23, 2010 Hi Carla, there are a few plugins that are free, and if you click here you will see the list. Browse through these and see if any fit your needs.
If you do need something a bit more powerful, I would suggest the paid plugin, WishList. I have used it and really am happy with the resutls.
Feel free to contact me with any other questions.

Jan 27, 2010 Thank you Bob. Once again, you put on an information packed event. And followed up with a couple of very helpful emails pertaining to subjects discussed in class. It was well worth the hour drive to be there. If anyone needs help with WordPress, Bob is the man.
