Event description

Have you considered giving workshops as part of your business, or perhaps giving them to promote your business?

Would you like to give workshops, but aren't sure where to start?

Or perhaps you've started, but would like to learn more?

Then come join today's class and get started on your next workshop!

We'll discuss:

  • What to include in your workshop template

  • The differences between workshops, lectures, seminars, and mastermind groups

  • How to find workshop participants

  • The "Guinea Pig" workshop (also known as the "reverse Field of Dreams" workshop...)

  • Hi Tech vs. Low Tech presentations (the pros and cons)

  • Hand-outs and materials

  • To charge or not to charge? The real question you must ask...

  • Selecting the venue

  • Nine simple ways to promote your workshop for free

plus... your questions!

We'll start with a time of introductions. Let us know who you are, what your workshop topic is (or will be), and what experience you've had with leading workshops.

Kate Phillips of Total Wealth Coaching has developed and led workshops professionally for 4 years (and has been taking workshops much longer than that!) She is best-known for her 10-week course, Living in Abundance: Love Your Money, Love Yourself (for women only!) She is a certified Trainer (Peak Potentials) and Coach (Coach Training Alliance).

Come early and order lunch at the Mosaic Coffeehouse! They have wonderful food such as soup, quiche, baked goods, and an good drink selection. Support our hosts!

Hi Peggy, I just added 5 more spaces, and will be checking with Mosaic about another date, too. (Although it could take a couple days to confirm with Mosaic.)

Although I can't actually register anyone but myself for a class (ie, we have no workshop "Waiting List" system YET...) I did just add 5 more spaces and am notifying everyone who left a comment or message.

I'll also be checking with Mosaic about another date. (It could take a couple days to confirm that, and a couple more to publish, so please be patient!)

If this is full again, I recommend checking back late tonight and tomorrow morning, there are often last-minute cancellations.

Thanks for your interest, I'm excited for our class Wed! Should be fun.

Yes, Janis, I could do Renton... what about that restaurant where the Dunns hold events?

  • Kate Phillips
Posted by Kate Phillips, Carnation, Seattle, Washington | Feb 16, 2009

I'm full again! Let me go see what I can do about another date.

(Please be patient, it could take a couple days to get confirmation from Mosaic!)

The room there holds may 10-15 for a meal only. I could look for another venue for you. That's what I do! 8-)

4th Street Grill in Renton comes to mind. Do you want a quiet place, though? There's a nice place in Maple Valley. There are tons of places I'd love to talk to you about. Just kind of depends on what you want. You can contact me through my website www.greatestofdays.com

  • Kate Phillips
Posted by Kate Phillips, Carnation, Seattle, Washington | Feb 16, 2009

I can't add anyone to a "list" (we don't have groups yet on Biznik or waiting lists), but if anyone sends me their email I'll make sure to put them on on a list about future Workshop events.

OR, maybe better yet, you can click on the "follow this event" link (top left, under my picture). You'll get updates like this one, and I'll post announcements of the next Workshop 101's here.

I only have the ability to message those who have already RSVP'd as a group (which doesn't help you if you can't get in!) Otherwise, I have to message each of you individually, which I have done once, but I can't continue to do that.

    Thanks! Kate

Thank you ALL for you interest! I hope to have one or two new dates/times confirmed by tomorrow.

Once again, there IS NO "LIST." Please don't ask me to add you to "my list" unless you message me with your email address. I have started an email list, OR, you can "follow the event" (look for link top left of event page, under my picture) if you want to be notified of updates, and I'll update this page when a new class is added.

There's no way (yet) to form a "group" on Biznik, and I can't individually message 30 people every time there is a change! (Well, I can, but after doing it once, I'm opting out of that method!) Thanks for understanding.

I will, Ann! Waiting to hear back from two venues. Just follow event and you'll get the updates. Sorry to miss you tomorrow.

Now let's see who's following the event and can grab the spot! Actually, I'll add a couple more, to make up for those last-minute cancellations that seem inevitable...

I just got confirmation of a NEW date and venue for Workshops 101, for those who could not get into today's class.

I'll be offering it again at the Greenbean Coffeehouse in Greenwood on Monday, March 2, in the EVENING. (Probably at 6:15 or 6:30.) I'm also anticipating another daytime date at the Mosaic, still waiting for confirmation.

It will take a day or so to get those events actually POSTED on Biznik, and there is nothing I can do to "save a spot" for anyone. But hopefully if I offer it twice more, we'll have space for everyone!

    Thanks again for your interest.

Kate, Thank you! What a gift you have given us today! I don't think I've had so much variety of learning in such a short time! Your workshop was a great balance of information, experience and acknowledgement which has really inspired me to continue to move toward creating workshops again!

Thanks for the kind feedback, Karen! I think the class went great, too, and I'm glad people got a lot out of it.

And to ALL who couldn't get IN to my last Workshops 101, there is another Monday eve, March 2nd at the Greenbean Coffeehouse in Greenwood. It's now POSTED and accepting RSVP's!

If you were "following" this event to see when another is posted... I wanted to let you know there is a new "Workshops 101" event now posted on Biznik Thursday, March 26th, 10am at Mosaic Coffeehouse. This may be the last time I teach this event for free... so don't miss it!

    RSVP here: http://biznik.com/events/workshops-101-how-to-get-started-giving-workshops-1

After this, it will expanded into a half-day program for a reasonable fee.

I am also developing a full-day program with Joe Shirley which will cover further aspects of how to be effective using workshops and seminars in your business. Just send me your email if you'd like information on further "worskhop" events.

Here are some comments from the last two classes:

"Fun! Engaging, Entertaining." - Karen Floyd

"Very enlightening. I learned more than I expected about all the details." - Jackie Brulette

“Great ideas… It made me think about “free” vs. “paid, and that is awesome!” – Amy Goetz

“Kate, this was very valuable and fun. You do an excellent job of opening ideas and of stimulating a much broader way of looking at workshops.” – Suzi Elton

"It has given me focus and foundation for developing my workshop. The template section (was) particularly helpful." - Georgie Coote

“Fun, informative. Appreciated the humor and new promotion ideas.” – Cindy Chartier

“I gained some very valuable ideas – especially the “what to include” template.” – Diane Dyer

"Great participation and ideas." – Karen Roehl

“I’m more confident moving forward and excited about doing it!” – Cara Schwartz

“Energetic, supportive, and informative!” – Kari J. Young

"Great energy and well organized." - Tammy Small

“Came hungry – left full!” – Nancy LaMont
