Subscribe to Indie Biz Q&A Ever used Hostmonster.com?

So my hosting provider just pissed me off and I'm ready to switch. I'm looking into Hostmonster because I've read some good reviews, but I'd love personal testimonies if anyone wants to share. Also, if you have other suggestions for hosting, I'd love to hear them!

What we need: SQL Databases - at least 3

         Good uptime
         Good customer service
         IMAP support
         Private registration

Thanks in advance!!

P.S. 1and1.com is my current host and I'm done with them. I've also used GoDaddy in the past and will not go back to them.

Biznik offers web hosting starting at $12/month. Go to www.biznik.net for more information and a list of our services.

I might be able to answer a couple questions, but Dan handles the techie side of things, so please direct technical questions if you have them, to him.

Biznik started offering web hosting services about two years ago, when one of our strategies was to offer small business services in addition to a networking community. We purchased the assets of a hosting company that had gone out of business and combined it with the other web hosting clients left over from Dan's web development company that he was running for 6 years prior to Biznik.

For a number of reasons, including the fact that we already use the word "host" to refer to event hosts, we thought it was too confusing, (Is Biznik a business networking community or a web hosting company?) we decided to downplay the web hosting side.

We still host our customers' sites on our own hardware in a co-located facility, and each site includes a free blog installation. And it's an opportunity to support Biznik!

I'd love to know what problems people seem to have with GoDaddy. I use them as my registrar and host for all my sites. I have been through at least 6 different hosts of sorts from cheap to expensive and have never had an issue with GoDaddy.

I am curious to see what the problems are and the extent of knowledge you have with hosting.

No, I don't work for them, am not a partner, and don't maintain an affiliation with them. Just a curious person who doesn't seem to have the problems everyone else does.

My issue with GoDaddy is their awful website and horrible technical support. When I sold Mommy's Company.com everything got all mixed up because their help section FAQ's (and their CSRs) were unclear. They ended up causing the new owners to shell out more money and caused a huge headache for all parties involved. The worst part is that this isn't the only time this exact situation has happened because of their screwy website. Even when I called customer support to help me through transferring my domain, it still got screwed up! Sigh never again!!

I actually found out that my latest problem doesn't lie with my hosting company, but with my ISP. I'm still looking into switching, though, because 1and1.com has its own set of issues. I realize that nothing is perfect, but there is a certain way I like to be treated when handling a technical issue. The larger companies don't seem to get that.

I probably shouldn't say this - but when you call Biznik's tech support, you get Dan's cell phone - which he answers morning, noon, night and weekends. But it's boutique hosting - you don't get a team of tech support members, but you also don't have to talk to a different person each time you have an issue.

That's awesome! The only thing I didn't see mentioned on the webpage is IMAP. Is that supported?

    Thanks, Lara!!

If Biznik doesn't work out, I use Dreamhost, which I adore - you get lots of database support, can host multiple domains on one account (I have about 10 at last count, with about 6 MySql databases) - plus, they're reasonably priced, handle just about everything for you, and they're a green host. They're at http://www.dreamhost.com if you want to check them out.

This forum is unmoderated, but please keep discussion courteous and not too far off topic.
