How to get my website viewed
Hello: I have a pretty good website. However, when I google massage in renton, I'm lucky if I come up on the second page. There is like 6 places that come up on top every time. How do they do that? I want my website on the first page! Help!

Hi Kristine, there is so much to getting your name up there on the first page, that I'm sure it's a bit overwhelming to answer. I know we have several great "web" Bizniks and they make a living doing this for people.
One thought is to upgrade to a supporting membership. You get the signature/link on every post you do, and that will certainly help.
As far as getting to one of those six spots, those are the sweets spots and it will certainly take some resources.
Another suggestion is to search the "learn" section as I know that several articles have been written on this subject. Use keywords such as search engines and SEO.
Wish I had the magic bullet for you!

Kristine,
I have to words for you: supporting membership. The $24/month fee is MORE than worth the result - increased Google visibility. Your internet presence will jump in a very short period of time. You will be able to choose "tags" for your profile, which will allow you to heighten your visibility when people use certain search terms on the internet. You can add a signature (and another link to your website) to every post you make. Quite frankly, even if I were inactive on Biznik personally, I would still pay for the supporting membership just for these benefits.
Best wishes,
Valerie

As Bob suggested, you can search this website for several bits about SEO etc., the Learn section as well as Biztalk. Over the years, this topic has come up multiple times with different voices chiming in--valuable content hereabouts.
You can also search the membership for those who work in the website realm professionally and then review the posts and comments that they have made.

Looking for SEO tip- May be you need Brad Fallon to help you out! Thats the lighter side of it. In my opinion basic SEO is hardly anything, you can learn and implement it at the same time by finding lots of stuff related to it on internet.
However if you wish to hire services of somebody professional in this field then there are lots of capable people here on Biznik who may be of help to you. Just search in the members section for SEO people...

(From another SEO gal)
Here's a couple of quick tips:
===============
Use keywords in the content of your Web site. While "massage" and "Renton" are in your meta-tag keywords, these words don't appear (near each other) in the body content of your Web pages.
...Google looks at a combination of things when positioning in PageRank. I won't give away all the secrets, but here are three of many things Google considers: page content, keywords, and referral links.
I'd also recommend that you sign up for a free Google Analytics account (http://www.google.com/analytics). It's a fairly simple process -- you register, add a code snippet to each Web page per the instructions, and you're off and tracking! Google analytics will tell you how many visitors your site has, how they found your site, what search terms they used to get there, etc.
Once you know how people are finding your site, you'll be able to modify your keywords and content to help improve your site's Google PageRank position.
===============
Let me know if you're interested in learning about the SEO, writing, and Web services I offer. Cheers!

Hi Kristine ... I have read through all the posts ... well skimmed through them and the last one posted by Tiffany took the words right off my fingers... Google Analytics... awesome! You can track so much...
But as far as getting your named ranked in the search engines, google, yahoo ... Tiffany mentioned; page content, keywords, and referral links. Those are great starts. The real hitter is how many people are linking to your site? (Referral links, as Tiff mentioned)
In addition to the last post, I went to your website and at the very top of the web browser, it says "Welcome"... How will google find that??? Unless someone is actually searching for "welcome", they won't find "Relaxation, Treatment and Chronic Pain Management, Renton, WA"
As included in your keyword tags, there should be a short keyword phrase to bring in all of your pages, PAGE TITLE . i.e. "Foothills Message Therapy:: Relaxation, Treatment and Chronic Pain Management, Renton, WA". The worst thing you could have is "Untitled Page"... at least you do have Welcome up there. :-)
Try the tips from Tiffany of course and try the "Page Title" solution ... and watch your rankings pull you closer to the top. It will take time though.
I just noticed something about your site ... when i view source, there are no keywords or anything, you may have used a template which doesn't really help you. If you need a quote on a custom website design, visit the-lovegroup.com and contact me. I'm not ranked where I want to be, but I am gaining on number one.

Posted by Erik Minkel, Everett, Washington | Jun 05, 2008Your current keywords are: massage, treatment, pain management, licensed massage therapist, kent, renton, highlands
They should include: renton, kent, seattle, bellevue, washington, highlands, massage, massage therapy, massage therapist, (you get the just of it)
Also, on a page of mine I listed the keywords at the bottom of the page in a small font so the search spider would see them, and it bumped my page rank up, i'm listed #2 now :) Note: the keywords at the bottom can be the same color as the background. If you need more help feel free to contact me.

One thing I noticed is that as a supporting member make good use of your signature link. I believe it might be better to have Foothills Massage Therapy in Renton or ...in Seattle. That link is what the search engines will pick up on. Any SEO people out there concur or have a good suggestion regarding the signature link?

Great idea Erik.... I didn't think of putting in keywords to match the background. Thanks
-
Posted by Bob Dunn, Seattle, Washington | Jun 05, 2008
I believe that I read somewhere that it's not such a good idea to do this. Some search engines penalize text that is the same color as the background under the assumption that the Web site owner is trying to spam the search engine.
However, I am no expert on this and don't want to mislead Kristine.

Kristine...
I just searched for: "Renton Massage Therapist" and YOU ARE ON THE FIRST PAGE, although at the bottom of it.
You've had some great suggestions by the Biznik community. You'll learn even more from Lara at How To Network The Biznik Way.
You can eventually get to the top of page one Google searches. Try this search for "Seattle Business Mentor".
If you want some more FREE ideas, attend one of my workshops called Shameless Bragging where I share techniques of how to be found and recognized better at live events and online.
Best wishes and welcome to Biznik.

Hi Kristine,
I'm going to be the contrarian here.
I think SEO is virtually irrelevant to you getting new clients. I could be wrong, but I personally can't imagine looking for massage therapy on the Internet.
Nevertheless, I think it's a good idea to have a web site. But the web site is a place you send people to, not something that drags in strangers from cyberspace.
I have a massage therapist, Karen. I go to her because a) she's only a few blocks away, b) my wife went to her first and liked her, c) she was the girfriend of the person we bought our house from!
Karen is a brilliant networker. She knows just about everyone in the little town of Boulder Creek where we live. She's become one of our best friends and the center of our social network.
She always carries business cards with her. She always talks to people. She builds relationships of people who like her.
I don't know if you're out there like Karen, but I'd put that on the marketing list about ten steps above SEO and web development.
The problem with the web is that people see online marketers like myself who have clients from all over the world and don't realize how many years it took to build our businesses. I networked my butt off for years, did lot of talks and presentations, and built a huge list of subscribers one person at a time.
So don't expect magic from the web - sure work on it for the long term - but you will be much better off if you do your best to get out there and meet a lot of people.
Check out my web site for some useful marketing ideas.
Cheers, Robert

Make sure your keywords are in your <title> tags.
Get your site list in Google Local. (and Yahoo Local and MSN Local.) It easy and, best of all, it's free!
I have posted this article on Biznik:

I'd like to support Robert's comments about building relationships, rather than focusing solely on your Google rankings.
Massage in particular is an intensely personal business. My guess is that there are far more emotional factors that go into choosing your massage therapist than practical considerations. (I'll travel to a good one, rather than use a mediocre one close by. Or I'll go to someone who doesn't have pachoulli-scented office, rather than a smelly one close by.)
So building your network via Robert's suggestions, and attending Biznik events, will provide you with much more "qualified" leads, than someone who happened to click on your site.
Google rankings are important... but if I like a massage therapist who is on the 10th page in Google, I will refer my friends to them. On the other hand, I won't refer someone just because they are on the front page of Google.
Just my $0.02 worth, - Christian

I recommend you attend some of Shannon Evan's events. She gave me a few tips and several links and in no time my page rank was boosted to about the third listing on Google.
SEO experts are everywhere, and any one of them could probably improved things for you. So you are in the right place looking for help.
