Subscribe to Indie Biz Q&A Incorporating a Blog in my existing website

OK, I've always thought of myself as a geek by nature and a lawyer by training but I'm frustrated by trying to incorporate a blog into my existing website domain, www.globallawpartners.com. I want a user-friendly solution to allow different writers within my firm to be able to post "stories" into a blog that appears on my domain. Whether it also appears on Wordpress or Blogger or Typepad, doesn't particularly bother me.

If someone could help walk me through this process and make it work, I will buy them a REALLY big beverage of your choice!

Thanks in advance, Karol

Hey Karol, I was thinking of doing the exact same thing. What is it exactly you are having trouble with?

Well, I created my website using Microsoft Expression Web. I want to be able to use an online blogging software (like WordPress or Blogger or whatever) to post stories, but have those stories appear on my domain without having to code it in HTML. It can be on a subdomain (like blog.globallawpartners.com) or on a directory of my domain. I haven't been able to figure out exactly how to make it "publish". It would be particularly great if it could have the same "look and feel" of my website (colors, fonts, etc), but its not essential.

There is an answer to your question but it is a little complex without having more information. If you are still looking for the answer send me a message offline and I'll see if I can help.

    Karol,

I have explored the options for a consulting client of mine. The easiest way that I have found is to download WP into a subdirectory like /blog and then just link to it. If you use a plain enough theme with colors that match your existing site it might work.

There are many better solutions. However, as it always is, they take more skill than the average geek. I have learned to make my changes in a testing environment rather than on my main site to avoid "screwing up the works."

    Good Luck!

    Hi Karol,

Wordpress is the way to go. Without going into too much detail here I'll refer you to a quick article I wrote recently on the subject. I'll be glad to give you more info and help offline if you want to email me directly. I have a lot of experience with WP.
