I'm putting together an FAQ on the top 5 questions people want to know about designing, programming and marketing Web sites. I'd like to include input from this community. What kinds of questions do you have?

Should you include a "Blog" on the front page that will Help your SEO?
Video and or Flash as well of eye catching stuff?
And lastly what about those intro page commercials... seems almost too much to start your web page after a 20 sec intro which has a big skip intro button on it?
I think you need to give the real story on SEO! What is most important and what is a waste of money. Too often people are sucked into paying a lot for this because they are told they have to, but often they get scammed because they don't really know what it means.
I would like to see how we can market our sites on a shoe string. Specially for those needing to market when they first start out. Most of us are told put a website up, then place it in the search engines, but what do we do from there? How do you get your site noticed and have your site moved up on the seach engine? these are all questions us beginners want to get answers for.
I always ask what the client expects their web site to do for them, then build the strategy from there. The answer to this drives everything else: design, usability, media, SEO, etc.
If the purpose of the FAQ is to answer pre-sales questions for POTENTIAL customers I'd answer: 1. How to select a website/marketing consultant. 2. What kind of website do you need? 3. What should I expect to pay initially and on a continuing basis for a viable marketing website? 4. What resources - besides cash - do I need to develop and maintain a viable website? 5. What do I need to plan on doing to maximize the return on my website investment?
I would say SEO is number one. "if you build it, and they will come" doesn't seem to apply when it comes to web. How many will go beyond three, or even the second page on Google
I lost track of this thread, but great questions all. I'm using Rick's questions as a basis for an FAQ article I'm posting to http://blog.curvine.com -- a few others will be the basis of other articles in the future. Thank you again.
What's are most effective ways to rank at the top of page 1 on google?
How do I drive up strong Inbound Links?
Usually the first question clients ask me is "how much". My first question I ask them is "What exactly....is it you want to do with it." I know one thing that would help is a check list of basic elements required/expected for a site based on their industry. An example of what I mean is, if you are developing a retail site a shipping policy would be expected.
