Subscribe to Indie Biz Q&A Wedding colors for 2009

Hi everyone, I do floral designs for weddings and I am wanting to know what are the hot trends that everyone is looking at for the upcoming wedding season for 2009? Some bridal stores have told me that black, kiwi and mocha are the colors. What happened to the oranges and pinks?

Would love to hear from brides-to-be and brides from last year about colors and trends.

Thanks. Meg.

    Hi-

We only do corporate events but I hang out with wedding people and floral people so I think I am probably okay to answer as we buy floral for dozens and dozens of events a year.

Mocha/Pink Combo- very hot in 2007/2008. Petering out now as overdone. White on White- very popular right now- especially BIG balls and the like in an all white palate. Different monochromatic looks for different areas- red for cocktail/dance area, white or green (kiwi or celadon depending on client) for dinner, something else for ceremony. So you visually move through the evening and the event.

You will always have traditional clients and more cutting edge clients - I would say the key to success in floral design is a good website. I know when I am looking for new designers to work with it all comes down to how much I can see on their site- especially in situ shots. I also often take suggestions from venues (if I am working internationally) as they are more in the know due to being local.

Hope this helps. Maybe design a few in hot colors to post and show?
