Subscribe to Indie Biz Q&A wireless credit card machine/phone etc.

Hi all; I need some opinions or advise on wireless credit card scanners. I want to start taking cards at my office. However, I do not have a phone or network line. I've seen stuff for doing it via your cell phone, wireless terminals etc.

anybody got advise on which way I should go and through whom I should do it with. There is so much on the net that I don't know where to begin. Thanks!

I'd recommend talking to a few guys in the industry like Art. Get a quote for dial up based processing, online processing, cell processing, etc. Make a table for the equipment costs, monthly costs, additional infrastructure costs, etc - the answer should become clear.

My gut feeling is a traditional swipe unit that dials up would be most cost effective as you'll get a good rate and low equipment cost. You'd need a phone line (we can deliver those to most of renton for ~$20/mo) but that would be less overhead cost than internet or cell based processing.

Kristine, I can help you. The awnser to your question depends on your monthly credit card volume (that's total dollrs processed). I'ld be happy to consult with you for free. I can go over any options that I have plus any that you are looking at out there. Thanks Art T.

Hi! I too, was stumped by this - and then when I started calling around, it just got worse. I thought I was being sold at every turn.

Then I found Victoria Hardy, credit card processor of my dreams. Victoria L. Hardy 206-715-5342 VLHARDY@Verizon.net

She explained everything to me in a way I could understand. The machine was free (don't know if that's always the case) and easy to use.

I had about $1000 worth of stuff charged in June and paid $60.

    I hope this helps!

thanks everyone. I'm still a bit confused on what to do. I will have a very low volume especially in the beginning. I do not have a phone or ethernet. So I'm looking for something that is a inexpensive as I can get..at least to start with.

    Thoughts?

What pricing have you received so far on equipment and processing for wireless and wired phone setups?

I think you'll need to consider adding a phone line to do processing. Granted that adds to the total cost, but is also useful for things like faxing insurance forms or taking calls (cell phones are nice, but can become a bother as work is always with you and you pay per minute).

This forum is unmoderated, but please keep discussion courteous and not too far off topic.
