Subscribe to About Biznik Place to post client possibilities??

On another list I inhabit a post just came across that could be a good opportunity for one or more of the event managers on the list. But I could not figure out where something like that should be posted. Am I missing something? It does not seem to fit in any of the sections. Do we have some kind of exchange section on the forum where members could pass on leads? Or do we need to add one?

This is not the first time this has happened for me. This time the post was about a contract position for an event manager but other times it has been for videographers, bookkeepers, virtual assistants, etc.

These are not full time job offers. They are 1099 contract positions which many of us indies are looking for. I guess they would be considered luke-warm leads since in my case, I am usually just the pass-through messenger and have no first hand knowledge about the position or the company.

Ideas?

Here is the post so you can see what I am talking about (and if you are an event manager, you can see if you want to respond).

Local marketing firm is seeking an experienced Event/Trade Show Manager who can work on an "as needed" basis, remotely or at a specific client location.

This is a contract/1099 position. We need a technology savvy individual who can work independently, make good professional judgments, pay close attention to details and work well with a range of people. High level of comfort with MS Office is required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage booth rental and booth ordering as needed
  • Produce booth graphics, banners and other signage
  • Oversee website content and update it regularly
  • Manage logistics for company trade show participation and booth
  • Manage budget and keep track of specific expenses and funding sources
  • Order and distribute name badges and shirts for booth staff
  • Manage the shipping and receiving of all literature, supplies, equipment and other materials, to and from show locations
  • Secure hotel accommodations for booth staff and others as needed
  • Communicate regularly with trade show management
  • Keep track of trade show leads and other data
  • Communicate with booth staff as needed
  • Track return shipment of corporate owned properties - i.e. loaner equipment, banners, etc.
  • Manage other promotional items and submit information as needed

If interested, please send a resume or a brief summary of your experience to: mrktjobs@gmail.com

I agree- it would be great if there was a place like this on Biznik. I often hear about opps that would probably be a good match for someone on Biznik but I dont have time to search around to find someone who I can give the referral to personally. I would like to be able to tell my client, Oh I can see if anyone from a networking group I belong too might be interested, and then post it here. These would all be project based work too I think.

Viv, you deserve applause for your heart in wanting to spread opportunities and help others. Kudos!

On the broader topic, a couple of thoughts: since this is a business community, I would bet Dan and Lara would hope that the employer become a member and make the search/ request directly themselves. There are places that specifically post gigs, like HotGigs.com... but the whole networking aspect is lost on that.

But about this lead-- you have to wonder about a company that: entrusts this hefty heap of ground-floor development responsibilities to an independent contractor tradeshow organizer AND asks him or her to "oversee and update" the company website! And uses a free web email account to get applicants, not a hosted account!

Anyway, a search for "mrktjobs@gmail.com" brings back to Biznik-- and nowhere else. And they weren't the ones who posted this here.

All of these are clues that this company is risky, cheap and/or poorly managed. They aren't choosing to invest time or energy or money in making a concerted search... so the payout may not be too hot either. At the very least, anybody that goes with them should get an ironclad contract and take no financial risk on receivables.

Good points Brian! However, that post was actually posted by a recruiter so I am not sure it is as flakey as it seems. My thought was that she probably uses gmail addresses with leaders like that to keep the open positions separate but I may be wrong.
