Virtual Events
Hi All--
I live out in east Timbuktu (actually in SE TX) and the nearest members to me are at least 120 miles away, which makes attending a F2F event difficult, even if anyone in the Houston area were hosting them.
Are there virtual networking events/webinars/teleclasses that are offered for those of us out of range of an in-person event?
Thanks!
Donna

Hi Donna,
The intent of Biznik Events are for them to be the face-to-face link that makes the people you meet here online "real". There are a number of social networks out there, but none of them are targeted at helping small businesses meet each other in their area and network together.Currently, teleseminars and webinars (or whatever word is being used this week) are not allowed on the Biznik Events calendar.
In the future, the Events Rules & Guidelines will be relaxed when we launch the Groups feature (early this year).
For now, my suggestion is to make it to a monthly Happy Hour event in your area. Make the trip, meet people, and then talk on the phone with them. Once a month should be enough for you to meet Bizniks in your area, and start building your network, so once the Groups feature launches, you will have an established network of people you have met physically.
Best of luck with it!

Hi Christian--
There are no events in my area, as I live in a rural SE TX. Houston is a 250-mile round trip for me, and Dallas is a 750-mile round trip. That's why I inquired about virtual events.
Traveling 250 miles RT to attend a Happy Hour event is not worth the effort even just once a month, nor could I reasonably do that in one day, assuming the event were a night-time event. I'd probably have to stay over and return the next day, effectively killing 2 productive work days for me. It's a 3-hour drive each way.
Thanks anyhow for your suggestions.

Hi all, When I was in Seattle I attended many in F2F events. Now that I am in South Louisiana I am building my Biznik network here. It is a slow process. One thing you can do is sponsor your own event. Get 5-10 other business colleagues in your area and have an event. If Houston is too far, how about Lake Charles or Sulfur... I know people in WA that would drive down from Bellingham to Seattle and wrap it into other classes they were teaching and make it a 3 day trip. Sometimes it is worth it to connect with people who are on fire about the work they do.

Hi Donna! You've hit a hot topic here - people have been inquiring here as well to connect all of us because there are others in your predicament.
Rumor has it, as Christian stated, with the Group options some Events Rules & Guidelines will be relaxed. So maybe check out the groups, join some, and put in a plug.
You will not go wrong with Howard! He'll get you on board for sure ... Howard Rocks! :-D

Donna... I did not forget you.
I will be doing my first Biznik Virtual Event this Monday, the 13th of April. I have decided to use the "Go To Webinar" tool.
The only announcement or notice for this and any of my other Webinars will be found within my Biznik Group. Here is the link to join my group.
For this first event, here is a link to the event.
Thanks for posting the question. I hope to see you online in the near future. ...Howard

Hi Donna,
I have lots of free audio files about how to do do-it-yourself publicity at my blog to help you advance your learning.
Just visit www.mainstreetmediasavvy.com and look for the category entitled, "New Audio File to Empower Your DIY Publicity Success" on the far right "Category" column.
Enjoy!
