Subscribe to Biznik community-builders forum coaches in Seattle - unite!

In the last 6 months it seems that the number of coaches in the Seattle area (at least the ones with Biznik profiles) has jumped from 2-3 to 15!

After looking around at many of the other coaches profiles, I realized that most of us have a strong niche and rather than seeing each other as competitors, we could see ourselves as strategic partners.

After all, the more people who understand what coaching is, the more potential clients are out there for all of us.

If you are a coach of any sort, would you be interested in a local event just for us?

If so, would you prefer a weekday evening, or a Saturday brunch? Eastside? Or central Seattle?

If you'd rather not be in a room with a bunch of other coaches, why not? Let's get some discussion here.

Rebecca

    Hi Rebecca,

Great idea! I couldn't agree more. The coaching profession keeps evolving and so too do the areas of expertise. I am a workplace people coach, that's all I do. If someone has hit a rough patch at work, I'm your girl. I am not the small biz coach, or a marketing coach, etc. I'd love to be able to pass along referrals, so that I can continue to do my authentic work.

I think it's worth a try to get everyone together. I'll go to the Eastside, prefer downtown, and weekday evenings or Sat. breakfast all work for me.

    Who's in?

I'm in too. Eastside or Seattle, weekday nights preferable although could possibly do a Sat. breakfast.

Oh, and I think it's a good idea to start with a one time thing since it seems like a lot of us coaches are already involved in lots of other regular groups.

We'll play it by ear - just know that showing up doesn't commit you to anything.

I'd be interested too - thanks for starting the conversation! I'd prefer the west side of the Lake, and am less likely to come to something on the weekend.

Great idea! I'd also prefer the west side of the lake and on a weekday.

Are you familiar with the Puget Sound Coaches Association? It's the local chapter of the International Coach Federation (ICF), and meetings take place on Mercer Island monthly.

Puget Sound Coaches Association is the local chapter of the International Coach Federation. I used to be on the board. In my experience, PSCA is attended largely by less experienced coaches, with a few more seasoned coaches attending irregularly. Maybe this has changed in the past year. I'm especially interested in connecting with coaches who earn their living at least in part from coaching.

A big part of my work is coaching coaches on how to more effectively market their services. I would definitely be interested.

I actually counted 18 coaches, so it's growing.

I'm especially interested in learning about other coaches' niches, to increase my referral network.

I spoke with Rebecca and I'm willing to host or co-host an event(s) for coaches, If people would like to suggest a specific location. I think a lot of good would come out of getting together for mutual support, brainstorming, etc. I was going to suggest Mosaic Coffeehouse and a Friday night but that may be too far east and north for people it seems. Please throw out some places and nights that would work........Thanks

I would love to host your organizational meeting in a private room at My Day Office, in Seattle on Elliott across from the Spaghetti Factory! Give us a call to check on room availablity.

Mosaic would be a good choice. It's in Wallingford, so not too hard to get to from the Eastside and pretty central for Seattle folks. I'd be fine with My Day Office as well, although it's not as convenient to access. Wed nights are best for me and Thursdays are ok too except for May 8th. Thanks!

Thank you Debbie and Shauna! Anyone else have night and/or location suggestions?

Awesome idea! I will participate. My schedule is flexible, so a time and place that works for the entire group, I’ll make work with my schedule.

Scott, thanks for forwarding this string in your email.

    Looking forward!

Rebecca... Thank you for this post. I would be interested in attending if I can.

Molly... Thank you for the heads-up to the local coaches association. I am not an "accredited" coach by profession, so I am interested in learning more about this field as my service offering has morphed into providing "coaching-type" help to my clients.

With so many possible niches, I would like to collaborate rather than compete.

Sounds like Mosaic on a Weds.? Is that good for everyone? Can we throw out a date - 23rd or the 30th of April?

    Looking forward to this, Kelleen

I probably couldn't make a wednesday, mondays and thursdays would be better for me - the 28th or 5th for a monday or the 1st for a thursday. If wednesday is better for other folks, that's fine - I can join you at a later meeting.

I attended Calling All Coaches 2 last night (met some lovely people!) and I mentioned the peer coaching group I'm part of. Rebecca suggested I post the format we use in case others want to try it out, so here it is:

We meet monthly for 2 hours. We have five members and rotate the hosting/facilitating. The way we do it one person hosts and another person facilitates. At our first meeting last fall we brainstormed topics that we wanted to cover, and we keep adding to that list. Whoever wants to be coached lets the facilitator know and we typically can coach 1 or 2 people at each meeting.

    1. Check-ins.

    2. Topic discussion

    3. Show and Tell (We bring in tools of the trade, book recommendations, professional development opportunities, etc.)

    4. Coaching

    5. Schedule next meeting and topic

The group has been an incredible resource for me. Thank you Heather, Jill, Noelle, and Angela!

    Hi Everyone,

Will there be another Coaching Event. I'd like to attend. It didn't look like that last meeting was as well attended as was hoped. What would everyone like from this? What do we want to create?

I really like what Rebecca said that started all this... I believe the more we unite and get people knowing about coaching and experiencing the value of it, the more clients we will all have. I also think the more we help each other to be the best we can be, the stronger and better coaching in general will be and I think that's important.

So, what do we want? How can we support each other and ourselves through this? I like some of Debbie's ideas. I'd love to get together with coaches and talk about tools of the trade and professional development opportunities.

When's our next meeting :) Lisa

    Hey Lisa!!

What I understood from David is that Rebecca is hosting the next event. Is that correct Rebecca?

Sorry again Debbie, David, and Rebecca to have missed the last one. I hope David shared that I was down with the flu. I hope you are all doing well.......Scott

I've never called myself a coach but I do advise on tax an finance issues. I'll keep my eye open for the next event.
