what about Twitter?

How do I use twitter to market my company? If you can only write so many characters it can be hard. What do you suggest? What should you include in those few words?

Tiffany, it would be hindsight to say, "well, just be concise and to the point." But that's boring. I say, "SKIP TWITTER ALL TOGETHER!" With the limited character aspect of the service, you can't get too creative yet speak your peace in the same tweet - it's essentially a null tool.
And with the retention rate that TWITTER has succumbed to in the past couple months, it's just not on most people's radars right now. And soon enough, will be just another trend gone obsolete (think, "Pepsi Clear").
:P

Tweets are being indexed by the search engines, You can set up automated keyword search through Tweetdeck
Twitter is a free public news source
if you don't want negative media/news pumped into your head - Kill your television (except for video games and movies)
Mitta, what is your book about?
Binh, I would not suggest Twitter for an auto body shop - you need SEO

Do the search engines index my tweets that I feed over to my website?
And on a related note, do the search engines consider the Twitter updates that are fed to my website as actual (new) content on my site?

Leila, the answer to the first question is yes, if and when the spider crawls your site they will index the posts visible at that time, I am not sure how they consider the updates, similar to an RSS feed on the site I am sure. There are a lot of variables involved obviously. I guess I should have been more specific, the indexing of the tweets is usually based on an RSS of the API to another site like Friend Feed, Wordpress, a personal site...

also http://splitweet.com/djplb and it seems that my account changes the language settings on me so I would assume that it may be getting indexed multilingual, Last.fm also does this

Love the live twitter commercials appearing on Youtube where some guy walks around the big city commenting loudly on this or that to see peoples reactions.
We barely are learning to Blog and have yet to jump into tweeting.

Jim I think Twitter would be perfect for what you offer, set up an account search for keywords that relate to your business and start following people up to 2000, if you are still interested at that point let me know and we can set up a meeting, also your site could use some SEO, Mitta in regards to your book set up an account and search for keywords relating to your target audience, then set up a link to the place to buy it,

Hey everyone,
I do all my own Web design (pretty basic stuff). I've seen some businesses have a feed of their tweets on their home page.
How do they do that?
Thanks, Paul

what program/app/language are you designing in?

Hey David,
I just do plain vanilla html, with some barebones CSS. I code it in my favourite text editor: TextWrangler.
I have since found some Twitter Badges that will publish my latest tweets, but I've definitely seen nicer stuff out there.
