I was relaxing after dinner, reading the day's mail, when I started reading the latest issue of Seattle Business (July 2008).
On page 18, header: "brightidea/spotlighting inspiration, title: Minding Your Own Biznik" was a great shot of Lara and Dan and a very nice article about our founders' "Thang"" by Lilium Pierson.
It's really a nice feeling to be associated with such a fine couple of folks and their (our) community.
Rock on!

Yep I saw it too! Congrats!
You beat me to posting about the article. Saw it last night myself. - J.
Nice article! I was dismayed, however, to see that five pages before the article on Biznik there was the magazine's "Sound Off" poll findings that shed a negative light on Biznik. The question asked of readers was "How do you feel about business networking sites such as LinkedIn and Biznik?" The majority of respondents, 42.1%, said "They are little more than a marketing gimmick." Other options of opinion were "They're good for social gatherings but not serious marketing tools" or "They're useful resources for finding potential clients" or "They're essential to doing business - I'm addicted to them." Only 5.3% of the respondents chose that answer.
First, I have to say that comparing Biznik to LinkedIn is, in my humble opinion, apples and bears....not even apples and oranges! Ok, I have to admit, I don't know much about LinkedIn but from visiting the site a few times, I do not view LinkedIn as a true COMMUNITY of people (friends and colleagues!) interacting on a personal and face-to-face level to help foster each other's businesses (and dreams!). That is what Biznik is. I don't have profiles on LinkedIn and Facebook. That may change after being educated about these resources at BizJam, as there are many speakers scheduled to talk about how to use these resources. For now, I am only a "Biznikian" b/c of the personal element and being part of an active, genuine community of people I know and respect.
I knew when I joined Biznik that my target audience (new parents) would not likely be hanging out at events much but I knew that Biznik would be invaluable to my biz in other ways of networking and business support...and that has proven to be true 150%. The icing on the cake has been the amazing friendships I have been blessed with through Biznik. I know many of you have found that Biznik is "essential to doing business and you're addicted to it" as documented in the Bizik Money post and the 12 Step post.
So maybe, Seattle Business Weekly will be flooded with letters to the editor saying how wrong that poll is! Actually, I was surprised they would “bait” the readers by including Biznik in the question and publishing those findings five pages before the glowing article...odd.
BTW, I love Seattle Business Monthly magazine. Not only has it featured several Biznik members to date but I find useful info that I can apply to my biz in every issue and best of all, I got my subscription for free thanks to a heads-up on a special promo posted by Keith Gormezano.

Too bad the pollsters weren't competent at designing polls. Lumping two or more things together and asking how you feel about them in aggregate leaves you with invalid results.
I think it's time to sound off with the magazine.
Oh, and I didn't finish the mag before posting; so, I didn't mention the article about Biznik member, Sophia McDonald on page 22.
Thank you, John, for mentioning my name:) Seattle Business Monthly has done a great job on writing about my business:) SM
